Joe Gibbs went over Ty Gibbs’ scary sprint car crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. The team owner explained why he deviated from JGR’s long-held policy and allowed his grandson to compete in the race.
Gibbs took part in the High Limit Racing season opener and went against reigning Cup champion Kyle Larson. However, he was met with a serious accident during the Heat race, as he made contact with Hendrick Motorsports prodigy Corey Day and barrel rolled into the catch fence.
Thanks for the submission!
The No.84 Monster Energy car landed upside down, but Gibbs got out of the mangled car relatively unhurt. Moreover, he was able to compete in the Cup Series race and grabbed a fifth-place finish as well.
Notably, JGR drivers weren’t allowed to race in sprint cars until 2024, when the team lifted its long-held practice. During the post-race press conference in Las Vegas, Gibbs was questioned about the policy change.
“Originally, I was in one spot when thinking about it. Changed my mind and I decided. Those guys really to be truthful, they really don’t have a lot else in the off-season. And so I made that decision. So, I’m always concerned about it. I’ll put it that way,” Joe Gibbs said via Youtube/Cup Scene [8:37 onwards]
Ty Gibbs walked away with a 39-point haul after Las Vegas. The result helped him breach into the top-10 standings.
Ty Gibbs shares subtle message amid Joe Gibbs lawsuit against Chris Gabehart
Joe Gibbs Racing’s federal data theft lawsuit against Chris Gabehart uncovered scathing remarks about Ty Gibbs. The former crew chief revealed that Gibbs received special treatment within the team and wasn’t required to mandatory meetings.
Amidst the whole ordeal, Gibbs has secured a streak of top-5 results this season. He finished fourth in two consecutive races at COTA and Phoenix. During a post-race interview at Phoenix, Gibbs shared a veiled comment aimed at Gabehart.
“Yeah, we were really good today. And yeah, just, I don’t know that’s unfortunate, but we keep rolling. And, you know, I think I could have done some things better there. I just, yeah, unfortunate there, but very, you know, happy with my team,” he said.
“And you know, all the guys we’re with, I’m with the right guys, and that makes a difference,” Ty Gibbs added, “And so, you know, we’re running good because of that, and it shows, so, you know, I’m really happy with my team. Everybody believes in me, and we all believe in each other. So happy with that.”
Joe Gibbs Racing has extended their temporary restraining order against Chris Gabehart. The court has also awarded the team an expedited possession of Gabehart’s posessions. JGR attorney commented on the matter and shared that Gabehart’s ‘credibility is in shambles’.
