A prominent AEW personality has penned a heartfelt tribute for Big E after the former WWE champion confirmed his retirement from in-ring action. The individual in question, Amanda Huber, affirmed her close friendship with the fan-favorite following his heartbreaking announcement.
Back in March 2022 during a tag team match pitting The New Day against the Brawling Brutes on Smackdown, Ridge Holland delivered a suplex to Big E outside the ring which caused the latter to unfortunately land on top of his head and suffer a broken neck. The injury immediately brought the former WWE Champion’s in-ring career to a screeching halt, and last year during an appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s podcast, the star claimed that his WWE career was behind him, seemingly indicating that he had officially hung up his boots.
Recently, in interviews, and now in an earnest social media post, Big E seemingly confirmed that his time inside the squared circle had reached its end, voicing gratitude over his current health status despite the tolls of the sport, and thanking his fans for consistently supporting his career. Tributes have since been pouring in for the 39-year-old, including a heartfelt message from AEW’s Amanda Huber, who noted the former New Day member’s positive influence on the wrestling industry and beyond, and expressed pride in calling him her friend.
“The wrestling business has been so lucky to have @WWEBigE in it. He’s made not only wrestling better but the world outside of it as well. He’s someone I’m lucky to call my friend 💙” – wrote Huber.
Huber’s late husband, former AEW TNT Champion Mr. Brodie Lee (fka Luke Harper) had been one of Big E’s most iconic in-ring rivals, especially in tag team competition, for around seven years,
AEW’s Amanda Huber recently heaped praise on Cody Rhodes
Ever since Brodie Lee’s tragic passing in late 2020, one of his AEW colleagues and final opponents, Cody Rhodes, has maintained a strong relationship with his wife Amanda Huber and her children with The Exalted One, especially Brodie Lee Jr. Taking to X/Twitter this past December to mark the anniversary of her late husband’s departure, Amanda shed a deeply personal light on how important the former Undisputed WWE Champion’s friendship and presence has proven to be for Negative One.
“His bond with Brodie is so incredibly special. He’s the perfect example for the boys. He’s passionate, hard working, and loyal. He shows up for his people, not just when it’s convenient for him. He’s someone I’m lucky to call our friend. I’m beyond thankful for his friendship and bringing the Hubers into the Rhodes family.”
The Dark Order member recently revealed in an interview that The American Nightmare and his wife Brandi had asked him to be the godfather to their youngest daughter.
