Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps are back in action in the CONCACAF Champions Cup when they lock horns in the second leg of the round of 16 on Wednesday. Brian Schmetzer’s men return home holding a commanding advantage after last week’s stellar display at BC Place, leaving Vancouver with a daunting challenge if they are to overturn the first-leg deficit.
Seattle Sounders secured their third win of the new MLS campaign last weekend when they edged out San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 at PayPal Park to move into fifth place in the Western Conference table.
Thanks for the submission!
This followed an emphatic 3-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash last Friday, courtesy of a brace from Paul Arriola and Paul Rothrock’s 70th-minute strike.
After three games on the road, Seattle Sounders now return to Lumen Field, where they are on a run of five consecutive victories and are unbeaten in 17 straight matches since June 2025.
Elsewhere, Vancouver Whitecaps picked up a morale-boosting result ahead of Wednesday’s return leg last weekend when they hammered Minnesota United 6-0 in their MLS clash at BC Place.
Jesper Sorensen’s side have now won each of their opening four league matches, scoring an impressive 14 goals and keeping three clean sheets to sit level with Los Angeles FC at the top of the Western Conference standings.
Vancouver will look to build on their display against Minnesota, but they have failed to win 13 of their last 14 visits to Lumen Field, losing nine and claiming four draws since September 2016.
