What to do with shears in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, you can craft all kinds of tools. Some of the most important tools are pickaxes, axes, and shovels. However, there are a few lesser-used tools that can also be quite important in certain scenarios. One such tool is called shears. Those who are new to the game might not know about this item, but it is worth making and keeping early in the game.

Here are more details about shears and what you can do with them in Minecraft.

Crafting shears is extremely simple in Minecraft. You need to place two iron ingots diagonally in crafting slots to make the tool. Iron can be slightly tough to find and use, especially early in the game, when it can also be used to craft more important items like armor.

One of the first major uses of the tool is that it can be used to shear a sheep to cut its wool. In a new world, you need to craft a bed as quickly as possible to skip nighttime. For that, you might have to kill sheep to get wool blocks. However, if you craft this tool, you can simply shear the wool and keep the mob alive.

Apart from that, here are other uses for shears:

  • Shear a mooshroom to get mushrooms from its back.
  • Shear a snow golem to get the carved pumpkin from its head.
  • Shear a bogged skeleton to get two mushrooms for its head.
  • Shear a beehive or a bee nest to get honeycomb from it.
  • Shear a pumpkin to make a carved pumpkin.
  • Shear the end part of cave vines, kelp, weeping vines, twisting vines to stheir its growth.
  • Shear a wolf armor off a wolf.
  • Shear a harness off a happy ghast.
  • Shear a saddle off any mob.
  • Shear blocks like cobwebs, leaves, short grass, short dry grass, tall dry grass, seagrass, ferns, bushes, dead bushes, nether sprouts, small dripleaves, vines, glow lichens, or hanging roots.
  • Shear a tripwire connected to a tripwire hook.

Apart from using shears in various ways, you can also enchant them to get more out of the tool. Even though a shear is an extremely simple tool that is seldom used, enchantments can make it even stronger:

  • Silk Touch (BE only)
  • Efficiency
  • Unbreaking
  • Mending
  • Curse of Vanishing

Among these, unbreaking, mending, and silk touch in Bedrock Edition are the only actual useful enchantments for the tool
