Scarpetta season 2 is definitely happening, the network has announced. This means the crime series drama can further develop its plot following the premiere of the first season earlier this year. The show, developed by Liz Sarnoff and based on the best-selling novels of Patricia Cornwell, debuted on Amazon Prime Video on March 11, 2026.
It tells the story of forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta, who, through the use of leading-edge techniques, solves murder cases that are puzzling the authorities in several locations in the USA. Scarpetta season 2 has always been in the cards. At the time when the series was first announced in September 2024, it was granted two seasons from the start, which enabled the showrunners to plot a more extended storyline right away.
With the support of executive producers and leading ladies Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, the series marries crime-solving with a strong focus on the development of the leading characters.

What to expect from Scarpetta season 2?

Liz Sarnoff, the showrunner, told the media that the story of Scarpetta season 2 will pick up exactly where the first season left off. It will finally solve all the loose ends before bringing in a new main case. In fact, Sarnoff has said that the next season will be much darker, and even the existing cases won’t be enough to keep the viewers excited.
An incident where a child is abducted will be a major element of the storyline early in the season, she added. All these points indicate that season 2 is indeed aligned with the mood set by the first season, but it will take the story to a whole new level in terms of suspense. At the same time, the series will keep highlighting the character of Kay Scarpetta.
A forensic pathologist, she is known for her use of cutting-edge forensic tools to solve perplexing cases in states like Florida, Virginia, and South Carolina. Season 2 will probably be based on two of the novels from Patricia Cornwell’s book series – Cruel and Unusual and The Body Farm. Both these works have intricate and grim narratives, which are quite in line with the direction that has been given for the new season.
Even though the official full cast list for season 2 has not been released yet, the main team will likely come back. For example, in the present-day timeline, notable actors like Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, who are also executive producers of the series, are featured.
Other prominent cast members include Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose. The show is employing a dual-timeline format, with younger versions of the characters played by Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish.
