Is Lee Woo-gyeom sentenced to the demise penalty for killing 17 individuals?

Episodes three and four of Bloody Flower debuted on Disney+ on February 11. The crime thriller features Ryeoun as Lee Woo-gyoem, once a gifted medical trainee who now faces conviction for killing 17 individuals. According to his testimony, the murders were conducted as unauthorized clinical trials intended to produce a remedy for otherwise untreatable diseases.

Prosecutor Cha Yi-yeon, therefore, presses firmly for capital punishment. Meanwhile, defense counsel Park Han-joon accepts representation due to circumstances connected to his daughter’s deteriorating health with Batton disease. As the proceedings unfold, the legal battle widens beyond a simple verdict and instead centers on whether a proposed medical demonstration can influence sentencing.

In episodes three and four, Woo-gyoem is formally sentenced to death in his first trial for the murder of 17 people. The court delivers the ruling after rejecting the argument that his alleged blood-based treatment outweighs the gravity of the killings. However, the verdict does not end the conflict. Subsequent developments in Bloody Flower introduce a medical demonstration as he saves one life.

What happened in Bloody Flower episodes 3 & 4?

In episode three of Bloody Flower, Lee Woo-gyoem requests a clinical verification, claiming proof exists in former patient files. Han-joon responds that the court will demand the actual formula, and Woo-gyeom agrees to present it. Meanwhile, Assemblyman Baek Sang-hwa appears on national television to address capital punishment. The broadcast follows a prior discussion with Yi-yeon, who urged him to speak publicly.

During the program, Baek states Woo-gyeom deserves execution. He also calls on Han-jun to withdraw from the defense. At the same time, reporter Woo-cheol informs Han-jun that every victim Woo-gyeom killed had a criminal record. This revelation spreads quickly online, thereby influencing public opinion. At the following hearing, Han-jun submits three key pieces of evidence. First, he presents records from Woo-gyeom’s medical school days at Chaeum.

At that time, Woo-gyeom proposed a blood-based therapy that faculty members praised and discussed developing. However, his career collapsed after a later accident. Second, Han-jun files documentation of the victims’ criminal histories. Third, he submits the alleged treatment itself. According to Han-jun, the active component is Woo-gyeom’s own blood. He argues that the altered cells contain regenerative properties. The method suggests that healthy somatic cells restore damaged tissue.

The prosecution counters that no medical claim outweighs the murder of seventeen individuals. Nevertheless, Han-jun requests only a controlled medical demonstration. Yi-yeon then suspects possible outside involvement. Therefore, she asks Detective Min-cheol to cooperate. Meanwhile, Han-jun contacts Dr.

Han Sang-ho regarding a detected mutation in Woo-gyeom’s blood. Han denies confirming any definitive diagnosis. He states the therapy remains unstable and unverified. By the end of Bloody Flower episode 3, the court delivers its first ruling. Lee is sentenced to death for the killing of seventeen people.

Episode four of Bloody Flower opens at a new crime scene. There, Yi-yeon discovers a photograph linking Han to the deceased researcher from Jinnah Medical Research Institute. Furthermore, Min-seo’s condition worsens, increasing pressure on H.an-jun Facing execution, Woo-gyeom initiates an alternative strategy.

Although his request for a demonstration was denied, he proceeded independently. Inside prison, he attacks an inmate identified as Hong Jae-kwang’s brother, who was Woo-gyeom’s final victim. During the encounter, Woo-gyeom injects his blood into the prisoner suffering from congenital corneal damage. The procedure appears successful as the inmate’s vision improves. As a result, Woo-gyeom secures approval for a formal medical demonstration at his next hearing.

However, the selected patient is not Min-seo. Instead, a child named Woo-jin is chosen. After receiving the treatment, Woo-jin shows full recovery. Thus, the court confronts a far more complex decision regarding Woo-gyeom’s sentence. The Bloody Flower episode concludes with Chae Jeong-su arriving at Han-jun’s office. He introduces himself as the chairman of Cheum Medical Center, signaling a new development in the case.

The next episodes, 5 and 6, of Bloody Flower will be released on February 18.
