Tony Munyonga dives full-length to assert a shocking catch to dismiss Ben Dwarshuis in AUS vs ZIM T20 World Cup 2026 match [Watch]

Zimbabwe’s Tony Munyonga clinched a stunning diving catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis to take the team closer to a sensational upset in the T20 World Cup 2026. The former champions struggled in the run chase against the Sikandar Raza-led side, eventually losing by 23 runs in the group-stage match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on Friday, February 13.

Zimbabwe reduced Australia to 29-4 in the fifth over after handing them a target of 170 as Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans ran riot. The Men in Yellow looked to recover with a partnership between Matt Renshaw and Glenn Maxwell, but soon lost the plot ahead of the death overs.

With boundaries being the need of the hour, lower-order batter Ben Dwarshuis tried to swing his bat in the 18th over off Brad Evans. The left-handed batter attempted a slog in the fourth delivery, and had seemingly hit in the gap.

However, Tony Munyonga, running to his right along the rope, timed his sideways dive to perfection as he pouched the ball with his outstretched right hand. Have a look at Munyonga’s sensational catch right here:

Australia could only strike two boundaries after Munyonga’s catch to dismiss Dwarshuis, as they lost the remaining three wickets to lose the match by 23 runs, and with three balls to spare.

Zimbabwe replicate their iconic triumph from the T20 World Cup 2007 to quash Australia’s T20 World Cup 2026 ambitions

Zimbabwe had kick-started the campaign with a comfortable win over Oman, but were the underdogs against a depleted Australia team that had gotten the better of Ireland earlier. However, the favorites looked uncomfortable for the majority of the contest, losing to Zimbabwe for the second time in T20 World Cup history after the infamous contest in the inaugural edition in 2007.

As things stand, Group B is now delicately placed with both Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe having four points and holding the two qualification spots, while Australia are languishing at third at the halfway mark of their group stage campaign.
