Phil Salt takes a one-handed gorgeous catch to finish Ishan Kishan’s carnage in RCB vs SRH IPL 2026 match [Watch]

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player Phil Salt took a one-handed stunner to end Ishan Kishan’s carnage in the IPL 2026 season opener against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, March 28. As a result, Kishan missed out on a well-deserved century, perishing for 80 runs off 38 balls, which included five sixes and eight boundaries. With the wicket, Salt helped RCB reduce SRH to 155/6.

The dismissal came in the 16th over of SRH’s innings. Abhinandan Singh bowled a full toss outside off to complete the over. The wicketkeeper-batter reached out and opened the face of the bat, slicing the ball in the air. The ball went wide of Salt, but the fielder reached out at it full stretch before completing a one-handed diving catch towards his right. With the dismissal, Abhinandan completed revenge after being hit for a six off the previous delivery.

It was Phil Salt’s third catch in the contest. He also took catches of Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, the latter turned out to be a controversial one. Salt will now look to step up with the bat.

Ishan Kishan and Aniket Verma help SRH set a target for RCB in IPL 2026 opener

SRH skipper Ishan Kishan led from the front after openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma departed cheaply in the IPL 2026 opening game against RCB. Aniket Verma then played a valuable knock in the back end, hitting a quickfire 43 off 18 balls, comprising four sixes and three boundaries. Meanwhile, Heinrich Klassen chipped in with 31 off 22. The SRH eventually ended up with 201/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Jacob Duffy starred with the ball for RCB on his debut, returning with figures of 3/22 in his four overs. Romario Shepherd also bagged three wickets but conceded 54 runs. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhinandan Singh, and Suyash Sharma scalped one apiece.

Defending champions RCB will now look to achieve the target and begin the 2026 season on a high. On the other hand, the Pat Cummins-less SRH will have to step up with the ball in batting-friendly conditions at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
