Ben ‘Vanilla Thunder’ Tynan is one of the most dangerous heavyweight MMA fighters on the planet today, and the massive wrestling powerhouse believes his recent victory last weekend came down to simply being in peak physical condition.
The Canadian superstar stepped into the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, for an important heavyweight MMA match against Ryugo Takeuchi at ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II on Prime Video.
Tynan secured a dominant first-round submission victory over his Japanese foe. However, looking back at his performance, he noted a distinct contrast between this fight and his previous one.
‘Vanilla Thunder’ told Bangkok Post’s Nick Atkin:

“No. It’s a totally different fighter. I guess my prep was better. I felt more in shape. I’ve been staying really active. But it was just a different fight in general.”

The impressive victory over Takeuchi marks another dominant finish on the global stage, but Tynan had to overcome the sting of his first professional defeat to get back in the win column. It was a difficult task, but he got it done.

Ben Tynan explains how his wrestling helped him process his first defeat
With his previous unanimous decision loss to Kirill Grishenko still fresh in the rearview mirror, the heavyweight MMA contender needed to rewire his psyche to move on.
This is exactly why Ben ‘Vanilla Thunder’ Tynan leaned on his extensive wrestling roots to gain success.
He told Nick Atkin:
“Looking back at my last one, I kind of dropped the ball there, but I was like, ‘Fuck it, let’s move on.’ I’ve lost in competition plenty of times in wrestling. And it’s nothing that you let weigh on you, and go ‘Oh, I have a loss. Who am I?’ I’m like, screw that, man. Take some L’s, you move on, you learn from it, and there you go.”
