The Supergirl trailer also teases a wider cosmic adventure, with multiple planets, new allies like a young girl seeking justice, and even a brief glimpse of Superman.
Supergirl trailer breakdown: Kara and Krypto’s bond, Lobo’s bebut, and a dark new DCU journey
The latest trailer for the DCU’s Supergirl shows a massive departure from the bright, hopeful tone we usually associate with the House of El. Based on the celebrated comic Woman of Tomorrow, this story follows a jaded, world-weary Kara Zor-El struggling to find her place in a galaxy that feels indifferent to her pain.
One of the most emotional threads in the trailer is the bond between Kara and Krypto the Superdog. Unlike other versions where Krypto is just a fun sidekick, here he is Kara’s emotional anchor.
The stakes skyrocket early in the trailer when Krypto is poisoned by a cowardly space pirate named Krem of the Yellow Hills. With only three days to find an antidote, the mission becomes a desperate race against time. This tragedy leads to an alliance with a young girl named Ruthye, who is seeking her own revenge against Krem for the murder of her father.
We also get a proper glimpse at Jason Momoa as Lobo. Sporting his classic biker-alien look and a heavy dose of attitude, Lobo appears to be an unpredictable wild card in Kara’s journey. Whether he is helping or hindering her quest is yet to be revealed.
The trailer also dives deep into the history of Krypton. While James Gunn’s Superman movie chose to skip the origin story, this film leans right into it. We see haunting flashbacks of Argo City and the slow, agonizing decay of the Kryptonian people.
There is even a brief cameo from David Corenswet’s Superman, reaching out to Kara via a hologram. His concern highlights the gap between them: while Clark was raised with love on Earth, Kara grew up watching her entire world crumble around her. This trauma defines her character and makes her journey toward healing feel much more earned.
The film is based on the comic book storyline Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film stars Milly Alcock, who gained a massive career breakthrough as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon.
The cast also includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye, the young girl seeking vengeance, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham join as Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura. Supergirl is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
