DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first in the contest.

Super Giants got off to a poor start as they lost their captain, Rishabh Pant’s wicket in the third over, following an unfortunate run-out at the non-striker’s end. Aiden Markram (11), Ayush Badoni (0), Nicholas Pooran (8), and Mitchell Marsh (35) also followed him to the pavilion, leaving LSG at 71/5 in 9.3 overs.

Abdul Samad then top-scored for his team with a knock of 36 (25) in the second half of the innings, helping them reach 141/10 in 18.4 overs. T Natarajan and Lungi Ngidi starred for DC in the bowling department by picking three wickets apiece.

During the mid-innings break, DC pacer Lungi Ngidi reflected on his spell and the response he got from the pitch, saying:

“It wasn’t really turning off the surface, so yeah, trying to get the revs and get it to dip just in front of him, and it seemed to come off perfectly. I think probably the last one, because executing a wide, slower yorker is probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to learn. Aiming at the wickets is always fun, but it’s risky. But I’d say the one on the right line is probably my favorite.”

He continued:

“Yeah, you know, even at the World Cup I mentioned that he (Dwayne Bravo) was the one who told me that I had to obviously get a good deceptive slow ball. Then I asked him how, and he was willing to teach me. So what you’re seeing right now is years of practice. It didn’t just happen overnight. I’m still not 100% yet, but it’s pretty much close to there. Just trying to emulate what he used to do, and I guess it’s working.”
