J.J. Spaun reflects on his win at the Valero Texas Open

J.J. Spaun was in sixth place after 54 holes at the Valero Texas Open. He started the game on Sunday on the first tee hole and made a birdie on the front nine. On the back nine, he added three more birdies, a bogey, and an eagle on the 17th for a final 67.

It was his second time winning the Valero Texas Open. He opened up about his win in the post-round press conference.

“I was just really exhausted,” Spaun said.”I was willing to accept a playoff, but I was hoping there wasn’t one. Just been a long day, very cold and windy conditions. Yeah, just sat around in the scoring tent and just watched play unfold. Once Bob made eagle, I went to the range, started getting ready physically and mentally to prepare for a playoff. That’s kind of where we saw everything kind of transpire, and here we are.”

J.J. Spaun’s win came after his struggles earlier in the season. He started the season with a T40 place at the Sony Open in Hawaii, then missed the cut at The American Express.

He settled in T45 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but then struggled in the next two rounds at The Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational. He finished in 24th place at The Players Championship but then missed the cut at the Valspar Championship before winning the Valero Texas Open.
