The York Revolution, an unaffiliated minor league team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, announced that they will play one game this season as the Big Dills. The alternate identity, which features a dill pickle being launched from a cannon, combines York, Pennsylvania’s ties to the Revolutionary War with their neighboring town Dillsburg’s association with pickles.
While Dillsburg is not in fact named for pickles, but rather for one of the town’s earliest residents, Captain Matthew Dill, the town has become associated with a specific variety of pickle through simple wordplay. One reason that a team in York would celebrate its neighbor with an alternate identity is that the promotion will benefit the nonprofit Dillsburg Community Association.

The Revolution will hold their Pickle Party (their words, not mine) May 30, 2026, and will auction off game-worn jerseys.
