Tony Khan explains why he does not assault WWE anymore

Tony Khan‘s All Elite Wrestling and WWE have been a part of the biggest rivalry in pro wrestling for a very long time now. Both promotions constantly try to outshine each other and even thrash one another occasionally during their on-screen segments. However, AEW hasn’t been attacking their rival company as much as they used to, for some time now. The company’s President revealed the reason for this in a recent interview.

After years of WWE dominating the world of professional wrestling as the biggest promotion in the world, AEW emerged as their new competition back in 2019. The promotion was led by the Elite – Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks with the financial backing of Tony Khan. Over the past 7 years of its existence, the company has given a tough competition to the Stamford-based wrestling promotion.

During his recent appearance on the Coach and Bro podcast, Khan was told by Vince Russo that AEW should take more shots at WWE as they’re the number 2 promotion. However, Khan responded to Russo by saying that the company is more established now and has moved the past the rebel spirit they had in their initial days.

“I don’t disagree with everything you’re saying, but I think the AEW fans would also agree I’ve refined my own media strategy and I think people have seen me try to take the high road,” he said. [H:T/WrestlePurists]

It’s great to see Tony Khan practice the idea of healthy competition by avoiding such petty shots at their rival company.

Tony Khan shared the details of his meeting with former WWE employee Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon is the son of WWE’s former Chairman Vince McMahon. He met with the AEW President few years ago when they ran into each other at an airport in Texas. During the same interview with Vince Russo, Tony Khan shared the details of his meeting with the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion.

“I’ve only had the one really nice talk with him. I thought that was interesting and I also thought it was quite impressive that in one conversation, somehow it got out that I had talked to him… I don’t think the role of being an on-screen person in a wrestling show seemed like particularly the thing he was interested in, but he had a lot of interesting things and experiences that are totally different than mine. But I don’t particularly think he went into it thinking, I want to be a character on this guy’s show.” He said.

It would’ve been interesting to see Shane O’ Mac on AEW programming if he had actually considered signing with the promotion.
