LIV golfer Byeong Hun An made a “Grand Slam” joke after Rory McIlroy won the Masters. The Northern Irish golfer successfully defended his title at this week’s major.
Hun An made an early prediction ahead of the final round that McIlroy would win the event. He shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on April 11 with a caption:
Thanks for the submission!
“Congrats to Rory Mcilroy for winning back to back Masters,” he wrote.
After the world No. 2 defended his title, Hun An shared another post on his X account to congratulate him and mentioned that McIlroy is the “first golfer” to win the Grand Slam.
“Congrats to Rory for being the first golfer to win the grand slam,” he wrote.
However, McIlroy completed his career Grand Slam last year after winning the Masters and became the sixth golfer in history to achieve the rare feat.
Rory McIlroy won his sixth major at the Masters 2026. He won his maiden major at the US Open back in 2011. He carded the four rounds of 65, 66, 68, and 69 to register an eight-stroke win over Jason Day.
His next win at a major was in 2012 at the PGA Championship, and then he won The Open Championship in 2014. He registered a one-stroke win over Phil Mickelson at the PGA Championship in 2014, but then struggled to win a major until the Masters in 2025 and then in 2026.
Rory McIlroy opens up about his preparation for the Masters 2026
Rory McIlroy opened up about his preparation at the Masters 2026 after winning the major. He had an impressive start to his game with an opening round of 67. He then carded a round of 65, followed by the third round of 73. He played the final round of 71 to register a one-stroke win in the game.
McIlroy opened up about his win in the major in the post-round press conference on Sunday.
“I joked last week and going into this week that this place feels like my home course,” McIlroy said. “I haven’t played anywhere else in the last two or three weeks really. I felt prepared in that way. I felt prepared that wherever I hit it on the golf course, I sort of know what to do. I know where to miss. I’m pretty comfortable with all the shots around the greens.
“I’ve talked to Jack Nicklaus over the years how he prepared for majors, and he would go the week before, and he would simulate a tournament. He’d play one ball for four days, shoot scores. So then when he got to the tournament, it was sort of — it felt second nature to him. I did a little bit of that leading up to here, and I think that’s certainly a good way to prepare going into the next majors,” he added.
Earlier in this season, Rory McIlroy settled in solo second place at the Genesis Invitational, and before that tied for 14th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
