Normal (2026) portrays a story of a small town that normally revolves around gentle events, but changes into a full-blown blood bath within an instant event chain. The plot features a temporary sheriff who finds himself in trouble when he gets caught in a vicious situation.
The story is set in a quiet town in Minnesota and the subsequent reveal of the criminal network totally changes the film’s mood. Initially, the story revolves around a simple law enforcement setup, but as the film progresses, it turns out to be a high-stakes survival situation involving corruption, crime, and hidden alliances.
Normal (2026) ends with Sheriff Ulysses surviving the final shootout and leaving town with Alex to continue working as a temporary sheriff.
What happens in Normal (2026)?
Ulysses arrives at the town in Normal (2026), and at first, he makes friendly relations with the local deputies, residents and mayor. He is even given an offer to permanently stay there. However, after a bank robbery incident, he will find out the real face of the town.
When Ulysses decides to stop the robbery, his deputies open fire on him, meaning the town police are corrupt. In the bank, he finds a secret vault which contains money, gold, and weapons. He later finds out that the whole criminal operation is connected to the Yakuza. Instead of arresting the robbers, Lori and Keith, Ulysses decides to help them, as they are also in a big mess.
They use the weapons taken from the vault to fight their way out. As they go through the town, the hostile residents, including the ones whom Ulysses had met, are against them and even engage them in violent confrontation.
The movie discloses that the community has been covertly cooperating with the Yakuza, using the bank as a headquarters for their illicit dealings. They made this pact to financially support the town during harsh times.
To keep this secret safe, the town had already done away with the old sheriff and brought in Ulysses, as they thought he wouldn’t meddle. When things get out of hand, one of the Yakuza factions informs the higher-ups, which results in their arrival in the town.
Simultaneously, Lori and Keith escape. Ulysses, on the other hand, is still handling the consequences. At one point, he is rescued by Alex, the ex-sheriff’s kid, who then teams up with him to tackle the issue.

What happens to Sheriff Ulysses and how Normal (2026) ends?
During their last stand in Normal (2026), Ulysses and Alex gear up for one last big showdown. To have a bargaining chip against the leftover townsfolk and still the ones in on the deputies, they plant explosives inside the bank vault. They then reach a reluctant compromise to show the earlier violence as a mere accident to mislead the arriving Yakuza.
When the Yakuza arrive, the plan initially works, as they accept the explanation given by the townspeople. However, an accidental gunshot during one of their meetings kills one of the Yakuza leaders and sets off a chaotic chain of events.
The whole place erupts into one last, furious gunfight with everyone involved. The result of the fight is that a lot of the participants, including the Yakuza, are killed. Ulysses and Alex, however, survive the ordeal.
Blaine, another deputy, is the last one alive and later he becomes the sheriff. As the new sheriff, he carries on living in and manage the town with its secrets. Normal (2026) ends with Ulysses and Alex leaving the town together.
These two keep on going as temporary sheriffs, and this is how Ulysses’s story is likely to continue. At the same time, the ending shows that the town still has its ties with the Yakuza, but now they are more careful.
