Sold Out on You episodes 1-2 recap: Ye-jin’s search for the mushroom farm owner leads to clashes with Matthew Lee, as Eric Seo sees their meeting as fate

Episodes 1 of Sold Out on You introduce Dam Ye-jin, a highly successful and widely recognised host of a televised home shopping program. She is known for her ability to sell anything, from household items to fashion products and is considered one of the best in her company.

However, she refuses to sell cosmetics after a past incident involving a beauty product she has promoted alongside a famous actress. The product causes severe skin reactions among consumers, leading to a major scandal.

Since then, Ye-jin has avoided cosmetics entirely. As a result, she remains the second-best host, despite her skills, as cosmetics generate the highest sales. Ye-jin also struggles with chronic insomnia as the trauma from the past continues to affect her, forcing her to rely on sleeping medication.

On the other hand, Matthew Lee lives in a rural village where he runs a mushroom farm. He cultivates a rare flower mushroom used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

The villagers call him Mechuri, much to his dislike. He appears cold and reserved but consistently helps the villagers with their daily needs and emergencies. Despite his rough demeanour, he is dependable and kind.

Matthew is also the CEO of a large bio company that supplies natural raw materials. However, his brother manages the business while Matthew oversees production of the mushrooms, distancing himself from his past life. His brother repeatedly urges him to return to the company, but Matthew chooses to remain in the village and focus on the farm.

Ye-jin’s situation changes when she loses her prime time slot to her rival and the number 1 host of the company due to her refusal to sell cosmetics. Her boss makes it clear that she will not regain the slot unless she agrees to promote a cosmetic product.

She is pressured to host the launch of a new essence named L’Etoile, developed by a French company. Although reluctant, she realises that her decision affects her entire team, leaving her with little choice.

The French company’s executive, Eric Seo, who has recently arrived in Korea, has previously met Ye-jin and asked her out. She agrees to meet him, but never shows up. After waiting for her the entire day, Eric leaves for France.

Now back in Korea, he is eager to meet her again. During their business meeting for L’Etoile, he immediately recognises her, but Ye-jin does not. Despite this, Eric believes their reunion is fate and agrees to Ye-jin hosting the launching show of L’Etoile but sets one condition.

Matthew Lee’s farm supplies the key mushroom ingredient for L’Etoile. However, Matthew has recently refused to renew their supply contract. Eric asks Ye-jin to convince him to sign again.

Ye-jin accepts the task and prepares thoroughly before heading to the farm. On her way, she encounters Matthew when her car and his tractor face each other on a narrow path.

Neither is willing to back down, leading to an argument. When Ye-jin finally gives up attempts to reverse, her car gets stuck in the mud. Matthew tries to pass by driving around it but ends up breaking her side mirror, worsening their conflict.

At the farm, Ye-jin searches for the owner, unaware that Matthew is the person she is looking for. She repeatedly asks him about the owner, but he refuses to reveal his identity and tells her to leave.

She waits all day, hoping to meet the owner, but gets no results. Eventually, she leaves because of her work commitments. With her car still stuck and damaged, she takes a ride on Matthew’s tractor to the main road to get a bus.

She returns the next day and continues her quest. She asks the villagers for information, but they do not have the owner’s contact details despite working for him. To find the owner, she stays overnight in the village. While helping with household chores, she chases a chicken that ends up inside Matthew’s house.

When she tries to retrieve it by crossing into his space, it leads to another misunderstanding and argument. Matthew warns her not to trespass again and makes her sign an agreement stating that he will call the police if she enters his property.

In response, Ye-jin demands 10 million won as compensation for her broken side mirror. Matthew agrees immediately, which raises her suspicion about his identity and financial standing.

Later, Ye-jin visit the farm against Matthew’s protest and more closely sees the process behind cultivating the mushrooms. She is impressed by the quality and significance of the product and agrees to host the essence show.

That night, her insomnia worsens. She takes her medication and falls into a dazed state. Meanwhile, Matthew has changed his phone number to avoid his brother’s constant calls. Later on that night, Ye-jin unknowingly dials his new number.

When Matthew answers, she breaks down crying and calling for her mother, asking her why she has not answered her calls till now. He is taken by surprise by the unexpected call and her vulnerable state. Episode 2 of Sold Out on You ends at this moment.
