Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News and Rumor Roundup. The action in the company has been heating up after the fallout from Dynasty.
The Tony Khan-led promotion is now gradually building up to Double or Nothing 2026 and other major events lined up for the rest of the year. There are some major updates from the Jacksonville-based promotion this week as former Women’s World Champion Britt Baker made a TV appearance. Former World Champion MJF took a dig at a WWE star, and a major AEW star may be returning from injury. There are several exciting stories to cover in today’s roundup.
#5. Britt Baker made a huge TV return
Britt Baker has been away from AEW programming for over a year. There were speculations that the star might be leaving the company. However, reports seem to suggest that she is still with the company despite her hiatus since late 2024.
The doctor recently made a TV appearance this week. The former AEW Women’s World Champion was shown on screen attending an ongoing NFL draft in Pittsburgh. The star was sporting the black and yellow colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers with an NWO hat. Baker last competed in AEW in a match against Penelope Ford on the November 13, 2024, edition of Dynamite.
#4. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage could retire soon
FTR has been on a tear since retaining the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Adam Copeland and Christian Cage at Dynasty. The tag team claimed that they would be looking for new challengers and that they were done with Cage and Cope. However, the Rated-R Superstar suggested that the two tandems should meet again at Double or Nothing. He even put their careers on the line, claiming that if they could not walk out with a win at the pay-per-view, the wrestling veterans would retire.
This week’s episode of Collision was filmed after Dynamite. During the episode, FTR showed up and accepted the challenge for Double or Nothing 2026. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood mentioned that the encounter would be an “I Quit” match.
#3. Jamie Hayter provided a health update
Popular AEW star Jamie Hayter has not wrestled since her World Championship match against Thekla at AEW Dynasty. In the aftermath of the encounter, the Tony Khan-led promotion announced on Dynamite that she was not medically cleared to wrestle after the encounter. The star had taken a beating during the match against the Toxic Spider and needed some time to rest and recover.
This week, the 31-year-old star shared some positive news with the fans. In response to a tweet about her hiatus, the star commented that she will be fine very soon. Hayter suggested that she could be back in the ring by next week. The Brawling Birds member downplayed the injury and claimed that it was “no big deal” and she would be back in the company in the near future.
#2. Chris Jericho suffers a major setback
The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla returned to All Elite Wrestling earlier this month. He was on a hiatus for almost a year, and there were rumors suggesting that he might be jumping ship to WWE. Jericho returned and declared that he was back home and signed a long-term contract. However, the Demo God’s return to the ring has not been the fairytale that he expected. He suffered a brutal loss to Ricochet in their singles match at Dynasty.
The star will now join hands with Hurt Syndicate members Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin to take on The Demand for this week’s episode of Collision. The episode was taped right after Dynamite this past Wednesday. Fans attending the show shared some spoilers on social media. They revealed that The Demand, led by Ricochet managed to get the better of Jericho, Lashley, and Benjamin in the Trios encounter.
This is another major loss for Y2J since his return to the company. It will be interesting to see if the wrestling veteran can get back to winning ways.
#1. MJF takes a shot at WWE star
Former AEW World Champion, MJF, is known for his brash, outspoken personality. The 30-year-old star recently took a dig at popular WWE star Rey Fenix. Before joining WWE, Fenix was signed to All Elite Wrestling from 2019 to 2025. While he impressed everyone with his electrifying in-ring style, the star was barely used during his last few months with the company. He was also not released from his contract despite asking for it. The situation created a wave of criticism for Tony Khan, who finally let Rey go in early 2025.
Responding to a tweet by Ace Humphreys about wanting to see Rey Fenix back in AEW, MJF slying questioned why the star would return to his so-called “prision.” This was a jab against the WWE star whose final few months in the promotion felt like a prison sentence.
