New Browns QB Taylen Green throws himself into 4-way QB battle with daring warning to Shedeur Sanders & co.

Taylen Green is just getting started in his NFL career, and he is already setting lofty goals for himself.

On Saturday, the Cleveland Browns selected the Arkansas quarterback with the 182nd pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. He will join a corps that already has Dillon Gabriel and Pro Bowlers Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

During his conference call the same day, he delivered this message to his competitors:

“I’m a dawg and I’m competitive. I’m going to do whatever it takes to win, whatever it takes to get that first down, whatever it takes to score… if that’s laying my shoulder down to get a first down or if that’s hurdling somebody. … And I’m going to give all I have, all my might and all I got into it. So that’s why I want to let the franchise and let the fans know.”

He was also asked whether he was worried he would go undrafted, which he shrugged off:

“Not really. “I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and just I’m all part of God’s plan I’m not going to sit here and say I was happy to go this place, but at the same time, I’m still grateful for it and for Cleveland for picking me.”

Browns GM Andrew Berry praises new QB Taylen Green

There is much reason for Browns fans to be excited about Taylen Green.

At 6’6″ and 227 lbs., he is large for his position. While not exactly the most productive passer around, he is very capable on the ground, having scored at least eight rushing touchdowns in all the seasons where he was the starter.

General manager Andrew Berry shared similar sentiments during his post-draft presser on Saturday:

“Very mature young man. Really strong makeup and he has rare physical gifts. He has size, he has elite speed, he has a big arm. He’s gonna need some polish with his game, but he has the work ethic and he has the acumen to do so. So, we’re looking forward to adding him to the roster and adding him to the mix in terms of competition.”

However, it does not necessarily mean that Green has claimed the starting job by default:

“It doesn’t mean anything. We’re going to continue working with all those guys, and we like having competition.”

The Browns’ rookie minicamp begins on May 8.
