Michael Penix and Olivia Carter got married on Saturday in a private ceremony following their December 2024 engagement. The wedding reportedly took place in Atlanta and was attended by close family, friends and a few NFL teammates.

Their relationship, which became public around 2023, has been marked by consistent support during Penix’s transition to the NFL. Carter has been a visible presence at major milestones in his career. NFL insider talks on Michael Penix Jr. and the NFL’s quarterback double standard

When the Atlanta Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr. eighth overall in 2024, the decision was widely criticized due to their major investment in Kirk Cousins. Two years later, the LA Rams drafted Ty Simpson in a similar situation but received far less backlash.

NFL analyst Louis Riddick defended the Rams over their selection on “Get Up” last Wednesday.

“The best time to get your franchise quarterback is when you don’t need him,” he said. “Sean McVay just talked about the fact that they know that Matthew (Stafford) is year-to-year. The last thing they want to have happen is Matthew going, ‘You know what, I’m done,’ and then they have to go looking for a quarterback.”

Simpson, selected No. 13 by the Rams, is a former Alabama quarterback. He has limited starting experience but is viewed as a developmental prospect. He is expected to learn behind veteran Matthew Stafford before competing for a starting role.

Atlanta faced backlash despite planning for the future behind an aging quarterback, while Los Angeles was praised under similar circumstances. Critics also note that Simpson has limited college experience compared to Penix, who was a Heisman Trophy runner-up with sustained production.
