Hendrick Motorsports‘ (HMS) fresh patriotic scheme for Chase Elliott‘s No. 8 Chevy has fans calling it one of the best designs of the season. The team’s new Memorial Day weekend livery for the Coca-Cola 600.
NAPA will serve as the primary sponsor for the 600-mile race on Sunday, May 24. The scheme features red, white, and blue with a chrome number on the sides of the car as a special tribute to SSGT Perrone, a staff sergeant from Michigan who served in World War II, and other men and women who served the nation.

HMS unveiled the paint scheme for Elliott’s No. 9 Chevrolet for the Charlotte race on X, writing:
“A look built for Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte. Take a peek at all the angles of [NAPA] scheme for the Coca-Cola 600.”
Fans went gaga over the paint scheme and shared their reactions online.
“Miles better than the primary holy cow,” a fan wrote.
“That’s the best one yet, and a chrome number!” another shared.
“Absolutely adding this to the collection. Looks amazing,” yet another commented.
Others compared it to other popular patriotic liveries, including Jeff Gordon‘s 2010 Dupont red, white, and blue flames paint scheme in NASCAR.
“After Biffle & Gordon Patriotic scheme, this might just take the cake for me,” a fan stated.
“Best scheme of the year,” another wrote.
The NASCAR Cup Series will head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 2026 Coca-Cola 600 at 3 pm ET on May 24.
Meanwhile, Elliott will enter this weekend at Watkins Glen with strong momentum, having won his second race of the 2026 Cup season at Texas last weekend. He currently sits fifth in the points standings.
HMS heads to Watkins Glen with five previous track wins and Alex Bowman’s two consecutive top-3 finishes
Chase Elliott will bring one of the strongest records to Watkins Glen International. He has led 170 laps, among the highest totals in the field, and claimed wins in 2018 and 2019. Elliott also has two poles at Watkins Glen and an average finish just outside the top 10.
HMS No.5 driver Kyle Larson also has two back-to-back wins at Watkins Glen, which came in 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, William Byron joined his teammates with a win in 2023.
Alex Bowman has not won at Watkins Glen, but has scored back-to-back top-three finishes in the No. 48 car. HMS vice president Jeff Gordon also commended Bowman for his performance following his third-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend.
“It’s one thing to do it at a superspeedway, it’s another thing to do it where you need grip, speed, execution, and good restarts; and Alex had all of that today,” Gordon said.
The Go Bowling at The Glen is set to start at 3 pm this Sunday, May 10.
