Caitlin Clark and the Fever faced Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings in their 2026 regular-season opener on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Fever, coming off a pre-season loss to the Wings, showed improvement against Dallas before coming up short in a 107-104 defeat.
With eight seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter, Caitlin Clark had a chance to force overtime with a high-pressure logo three-point shot, but the Fever star failed to convert it. WNBA fans erupted on social media after Caitlin missed the game-tying shot, leading to a season-opener loss against the Dallas Wings.
Here are some reactions from fans after Caitlin missed a late game-tying three from near logo range.
“Caitlin Clark doesn’t have the clutch gene,” a fan said.
“Caitlin Clark just had the loudest brick of all time,” another fan commented.
“Once again she doesn’t do anything clutch and yet she will get more endorsement deals. Nobody has ever gotten more notoriety for accomplishing nothing,” someone reacted.
“Caitlin’s gone woke against herself, so who gives a shit,” a fan said
A fan even compared Caitlin’s missed shot to LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
“How many times did Michael Jordan, LeBron James, or Wilt Chamberlain miss a game-winning or game-tying shot?,” one fan commented.
“Why did she shoot it from Bloomington?,” a fan said.
In Fever’s season opener, Caitlin Clark recorded 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in 31 minutes. Klesey Mitchell scored a team high of 30 points, and Aliyah Boston contributed 20 points in a losing effort against Wings. Dallas star guard Paige Bueckers scored 20 points, three rebounds, and four assists in 32 minutes.
Caitlin Clark Addresses Injury Concern And Explains Going To Locker Room
Following her highly anticipated comeback to the Fever lineup after battling injuries last season, Caitlin raised concerns when she exited to the locker room during the game.
Later, at the post-game press conference, Caitlin revealed that her trip to the locker room was only to get her back adjusted.
“It gets out of line pretty quickly. So just that, just getting my back put back in place a little bit. But other than that, I feel great,” Caitlin said.
Fever coach Stephanie White also addressed Caitlin’s visit to the locker room and assured it was nothing serious, stating Caitlin wouldn’t be playing if she was injured.
“That would be the first time I’ve heard that. It’s just part of maintaining the body, this is going to be an ongoing thing, not just her. It’s part of being a professional athlete. We wouldn’t have played her 30 minutes if she wasn’t okay,” Stephanie said.
