The Washington Wizards secured the No. 1 pick at the 2026 NBA draft lottery on Sunday. This will be the sixth time in franchise history that they have the top pick. Washington has the chance to draft the best prospect in June. The team had a league-worst 17-65 record.
The No. 2 pick landed with the Utah Jazz, a team that finished 22-60 this season and is ready to build something special. At the Feb. 5 trade deadline, the franchise traded for star forward Jaren Jackson Jr.

After the two teams secured the first two picks for the upcoming draft, NBA fans revealed their thoughts on X.
“Pacers should sue the NBA for that rigged s**t,” a fan said.
“silva scamming pacers and nets fc,” another fan commented.
“Please explain to me how the Pacers didn’t get the top 4 pick?” one fan said.
More fans had wild reactions to the draft lottery outcome.
“Kings tried to win meaningless games even though we have one of the talentless rosters in the league yaaaaay,” someone commented.
“As a nets fan this was garbage results ..not even a top 4 pick wow 😑 .. they want us to be bad forever,” a comment read.
“Just give the worst records the best picks. I cannot believe people would rather have rigged lotteries like this every year over a little tanking,” one fan commented.
College Star AJ Dybantsa Reacts to the Wizards Getting the No. 1 Pick
The Wizards have a chance to draft BYU standout AJ Dybantsa, who’s the consensus front-runner to be the No. 1 pick. Dybantsa was present at the lottery event on Sunday, and cameras caught his live reaction to the announcement that Washington has the top pick this year.
There’s a good probability he will join the Wizards in the near future, even if it’s not a given. He was asked about the potential to share the court with experienced stars, Trae Young and Anthony Davis.
“It’s gonna be exciting,” he said. “Just preparing for this moment. Obviously, wanting to be the number 1 pick. Working to be the number 1 pick. So it’ll be exciting. Great opportunity.
“Initially, just thinking like how I am going to fit into the team. I think I am pretty versatile and adaptable so I think I can play anywhere. Me, confidently, I was not worried about picks 14 to three… I have been watching AD (Anthony Davis) for a long long time. Trae Young, even when he was still at Oklahoma. I know a couple of guys there.”
The Wizards could draft a special player in Dybantsa, who had 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 35 games at BYU.
