Joe Burrow missed significant time during the 2025 season due to injury. A turf toe injury in Week 2 sidelined him for most of the season. Veteran backup Joe Flacco filled in, but Cincinnati won just one game during his six-week run as a starter. Consequently, the Bengals missed the playoffs.
What does the Bengals-Chiefs matchup look like heading into 2026?

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported in April that the Bengals made a blockbuster trade by signing defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence from the New York Giants. The entire offense returns with all 11 starters back, while Lawrence is seen as the “centerpiece” of the defensive overhaul. The team also added defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and defensive end Boye Mafe in the offseason.
On the Chiefs’ side, Patrick Mahomes, the two-time NFL MVP, tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee on Dec. 14, 2025, against the Los Angeles Chargers. He is targeting a Week 1 return for 2026, but his status for a December game is still unclear. Kansas City bolstered its defense in the 2026 draft with cornerback Mansoor Delane and defensive tackle Peter Woods.
The Bengals hold a narrow 18-17 all-time head-to-head lead against the Chiefs.
