AEW’s year so far has been amazing. Their weekly shows are captivating, and their pay-per-views are being well-received by fans. Last month, they held Dynasty 2026, and the event was a massive success. On May 24, they will host Double or Nothing at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Fans are expecting this pay-per-view to be near flawless.
Eight matches have been announced for Double or Nothing 2026 so far. They are as follows:
- Chris Jericho, The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin), and The Elite (Kenny Omega, “Jungle” Jack Perry, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson) vs. The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona), The Don Callis Family (Mark Davis and Andrade El Idolo), and The Dogs (Clark Connors and David Finlay) – Stadium Stampede match
- FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) (c) (with Stokely) vs. Cage and Cope (Adam Copeland and Christian Cage) – World Tag Team Championship match
- Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita – International Championship match
- Samoa Joe vs. Will Ospreay – Men’s Owen Hart Tournament quarter-final match
- Bandido vs. Swerve Strickland – Men’s Owen Hart Tournament quarter-final match
- Thekla (c) vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander – Women’s World Championship match
- Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor – Women’s Owen Hart Tournament quarter-final match
- Darby Allin (c) vs. MJF – World Championship Title vs. Hair match
Double or Nothing’s match card is looking good. However, it can get better. Let us look at three potential bouts that can be added to the upcoming show.
#3. Jon Moxley vs. Buddy Matthews for the AEW Continental Championship
Buddy Matthews’ last match in AEW took place on February 15, 2025, where he unsuccessfully challenged then Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. The former WWE star got injured during his entrance, but he managed to finish this bout. He has been out of action since.
In an April 2025 interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, Matthews revealed that he partially tore a ligament in his ankle.
“It’s okay. Rolled it pretty bad. Had an X ray, MRI. There was no break, but there was partial ligament tear and cartilage damage. [I’m] Walking. I haven’t ran, I haven’t jumped, I’ve just started implementing cardio, but then it kind of stiffens up. And, you know, we’re working through it, but the docs was were telling me I’ve never seen an ankle roll that much under someone without completely destroying, smashing, disintegrating the bones. So I didn’t break a bone, which was incredible, but then I had to wrestle 15 minutes after it,” he said.
The former AEW World Trios Champion recently made a comeback in Australia’s World Series Wrestling promotion. He attacked Donovan Dijak and announced that he will be cleared to wrestle in October. But this could be a work. Doctors might have already cleared Matthews. He might have said this to avoid spoiling his return to the Tony Khan-led promotion on this week’s Collision.
AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley is a fighting champion, and he will certainly be glad to put his title on the line at Double or Nothing 2026. The former Buddy Murphy might show up this Saturday night and challenge the Death Riders leader. Their potential pay-per-view showdown will blow the roof off.
#2. TNT Championship match: Kevin Knight vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey
Kevin Knight’s AEW TNT Championship run has been amazing. After the title was vacated by Kyle Fletcher due to an injury, he won it in a 10-man casino gauntlet match at Dynasty 2026. In a recent interview with the Knockturnal, the Jet said that he knows his tag team partner, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, wants a shot at his gold.
“Everybody’s talented, so I know I’ve got a target on my back. I’m ready for anyone who wants a shot. But right now, I’m looking forward to facing Claudio, and I know Speedball wants his opportunity too. Those are definitely on my radar,” he said.
This interview happened before he successfully defended his title against Claudio Castagnoli on Dynamite: Spring BreakThru 2026. Fans are eager to watch the Jet vs. Speedball for the TNT Title. They locked horns before they began teaming up, and they have brilliant chemistry. Hopefully, Tony Khan will book this championship bout at Double or Nothing.
#1. AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship open challenge
It will be interesting if Double or Nothing 2026 has an open challenge title match. AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne and Lena Kross) haven’t been booked on the show yet, and fans will certainly not mind seeing them in action since they are immensely talented.
Bayne and Kross might show up at the upcoming pay-per-view and issue an open challenge. It could be answered by the reigning ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena, and her tag team partner, Billie Starkz.
Divine Dominion vs Athena & Billie Starkz has the potential to be a great match. However, this is just speculation at this point. Only time will tell what the future holds for them.
