Gujarat Titans’ (GT) five-match winning streak ended with a 29-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, May 16. GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first.

Kolkata came up with a stunning batting display in the do-or-die clash, with Finn Allen (93 off 35) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82* off 44) stealing the show. Their batting exploits helped the hosts post a massive 247/2 in 20 overs.

Gill’s impressive 85-run knock off 49 balls went in vain as Gujarat finished 218/4 after 20 overs. Jos Buttler (57 off 35) and Sai Sudharsan (53* off 28) also slammed half-centuries, but the side failed to overhaul the daunting target.

KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane failed to make a significant impact with the bat, perishing in the fifth over for a run-a-ball 14. Finn Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put the side in the driver’s seat with a 95-run stand off 41 balls for the second wicket.

Raghuvanshi later added 108 runs off 52 balls with Cameron Green for the third wicket. Green also hit a fine half-century, remaining unbeaten on 52 off 28 balls. Mohammed Siraj and R Sai Kishore took one wicket each.

Sunil Narine shone with the ball for KKR. The veteran spinner conceded just 29 runs from his four overs and picked up the important wickets of Shubman Gill and Nishant Sandhu.
