With the Universal Festival 1.5 update, four units inspired by popular One Piece anime characters have arrived in Universal Tower Defense X. Pirate King has taken the spotlight in this update due to its synergy with Quake Warlord and its role as a damage-dealer and debuffer. It is based on Gol D. Roger, also called Gold Roger, and its powerful passive abilities are a shout-out to the King of the Pirates in the One Piece series.
Here’s everything to know about the Pirate King, including its evolution and passives, in Universal Tower Defense X.
How to get Pirate King in Universal Tower Defense X

Pirate King is a Secret-rarity unit that possesses the Rose Element. You have a 7.5% chance of getting it as a reward after completing the Admiral Defense mode.
Admiral Defense can be accessed by speaking to the Marine Hero NPC in the lobby. In this tough gamemode, you are tasked with fighting three powerful Admiral bosses across separate lanes. Each boss must be defeated within five minutes when playing solo or with a team.
After all the bosses are slain, the final phase features an unstoppable Marine Hero boss. This enemy cannot be killed, compelling players to use Stun, Slow, and other debuffs to halt its approach towards the base. This immortal boss needs to be kept at bay for a whole minute to win the mode.
Although Admiral Defense can be soloed, it’s best to team up with friends who have meta units like Dragon Warlord (Rage), Triple Threat (Unrivaled), and Gluttonous Warlord (Despair) in their team.
Pirate King evolution requirements in Universal Tower Defense X

Pirate King has a single evolution called Pirate King (Voyage). Speak to the Evolutions NPC, select the unit, and then submit the following items to evolve the character in Universal Tower Defense X:
- 4x Universal Fragment
- 4x Holy Fragment
- 8x Frozen Fragment
- 12x Petal Fragment
- 1x Pirate King’s Hat
- 25,000 Gold
You can acquire different Fragments from the Virtual Merchant, Merchant, Challenges, and Acts in the Legend Stages. Meanwhile, the Pirate King’s Hat can be obtained as an Admiral Defense reward. You have an 8% chance of getting this evolution item with every completion (pity: 20 runs).
All passives of Pirate King (Voyage) in Universal Tower Defense X

Pirate King (Voyage) has a Synchro passive with Quake Warlord, who is also termed Whitebeard. When both are fully upgraded and close to each other, they deal a massive amount of damage to enemies.
The evolved Pirate King can trigger different effects when units with the ‘Piece’ Tag are its allies. Here are detailed breakdowns of all its passives:
Conqueror’s Coating
- Pirate King (Voyage) has a fixed 25% Critical Rate that cannot be increased.
- After this unit is sold and placed again, it gains 10% Crit Damage (up to 100%).
- This passive does not work if the unit is sold by the player.
The Spark of the Great Era
- This unit has zero placement cost and retains all upgrades after being sold.
- On placement, the unit gains 100% Damage, Stun Immunity for 5 seconds, a Follow-up move with every third attack, and the ability to apply Radiation for 50% Damage over 15 ticks.
- When attacking enemies, the unit has a 20% Damage decrease. After the final upgrade, it gets 10% Damage reduction instead.
- When the buff reaches 0% Damage, you can use the Active Ability to sell this unit.
- If this unit is not sold using the Active Ability, the upgrades will be reset.
While the passive is active, and the Pirate King (Voyage) is sold, the following effects occur in the match:
- The first unit with the ‘Piece’ Tag is automatically placed at the Pirate King’s position.
- The auto-placed unit gains 25% Damage.
- Auto-place has a cooldown of 30 seconds.
- If there are no available ‘Piece’ units in the team, the evolved Pirate King gains a free upgrade next placement.
King of the Pirates
- When this unit is Stunned, it ignores the Stun debuff entirely. It gains 50% Damage, a Follow-Up move with every second attack, and a cooldown of 10 seconds.
- Enemies drop 15% more Yen if they die within the unit’s range.
Synchro Clash
- When both Quake Warlord and Pirate King are fully upgraded and within each other’s range, they release a Synchro Attack. It deals 600% of the average Damage between these two units to all enemies on the map (cooldown: 300 seconds).
To make the most out of the Gold Roger-inspired unit, use multiple characters with the ‘Piece’ Tag, including the Quake Warlord.
