“ESPN benefited from Dianna Russini’s friendship with Mike Vrabel”: NFL podcaster questions media big’s intent with insider’s entry to Patriots HC

The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini scandal is still making headlines. Media personality Tony Farmer shifted the spotlight towards ESPN. Before joining The Athletic as an NFL reporter, Dianna Russini worked at ESPN as an insider.

‘Last Men Standing’s Tony Farmer pointed to an old post from ESPN VP Bill Hofheimer. In January 2021, Hofheimer praised Russini for securing a one-on-one interview with Vrabel, who was then coaching the Titans, just hours before a Ravens-Titans playoff game. Farmer wrote that ESPN’s own Steve Levy and Sam Ponder had previously said getting a Mike Vrabel interview during COVID was “nearly impossible” for most journalists.

“There is no question ESPN benefited from Russini’s ‘friendship’ with Vrabel. Did they knowingly benefit?” said Farmer.

The scandal first broke in April 2026 when Page Six published photos of Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini at a resort in Sedona, Arizona. Both denied an affair, but the story did not die down. Fresh photos, records, and details continued to surface through tabloids, including TMZ and Daily Mail.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport addressed the criticism aimed at reporters covering the situation.

“I have been, for sure, frustrated at a lot of people talking about what they think the job of insiders is like, without actually knowing,” Rapoport said on the Between the Tackles podcast.
