Italian Serie A side Atalanta BC are once again putting their namesake front and center with an updated crest unveiled last week.
The 2024 UEFA Europa League champions revealed the new crest on Friday, May 22, though it won’t appear on their kits until the start of the 2026-27 season. The new crest gets rid of the outer ellipse and the diagonally split background, allowing more focus on the silhouette of Atalanta, the heroine of Greek myth from whom the club gets its name.
“Every decision we make is driven by the results it can create. Our work and our passion are, above all, devoted to playing engaging and exciting football. We know how important it is for our fans to recognise our values in our colours and to feel truly part of Atalanta’s identity. The profile of Atalanta is clear, sharp and unmistakable. There is a part of Atalanta in every one of us.”
— Luca Percassi, chief executive officer, Atalanta BC
The new crest is inspired by what the club wore in the 1980s. The elimination of the outer ellipse means the “ATALANTA” and “1907” text are gone as well. The background of the circle with Atalanta’s silhouette is solid blue. The black lines in the hair has been reshaped, and the number has been reduced from six to five as a tribute to the five people who founded the club in Bergamo nearly 120 years ago.

Atalanta’s first crest from 1907 was a shield with horizontal stripes and the name at the top. In 1920, Atalanta merged with another local club, Bergamasca, and redesigned their crest to reflect this. After winning the Coppa Italia in 1964, Atalanta introduced a new crest with a golden, full-body silhouette of the Greek heroine running. In 1984, this was replaced with a circular crest very similar to the one introduced this week. Then, in 1993, a new version was introduced with the outer ellipse, added text and the silhouette’s head tilted back.

The full-body silhouette is still in use today and has appeared on Atalanta BC’s away kits in recent years.
Along with their Europa League title, Atalanta BC has won the Coppa Italia once (1964) out of six appearances in the final. In 2025, the club finished seventh in Serie A, earning a spot in the playoff round for the 2026-27 UEFA Conference League.
