How to get Withering Rod in Fish It

Fish It features dozens of Fishing Rods that help players improve their overall fishing efficiency, but few can match the power of the Withering Rod. Classified as a Forgotten rarity Rod, it is currently considered one of the strongest rods available in the game. Unlike most rods that can be purchased directly from shops or merchants, the Withering Rod must be crafted through a lengthy questline involving material gathering, crafting components, and progression-related tasks.

This article provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to obtain the Withering Rod in Fish It.

With the latest update, Fish It added a brand-new island known as Copper Canyon. This location is situated between Coral Reef and Lost Isle (from Fisherman Island) and serves as the starting point for obtaining the Withering Rod.

To begin the questline, travel to Copper Canyon by boat and make your way up the island until you find the entrance to the mine beside the Prospector NPC. Inside, you will find the Null NPC, located beside the Crafting Bench. Interacting with this NPC will start the Withering Rod progression questline.

The entire quest is divided into three separate stages. Each stage requires players to complete a series of fishing, material-gathering, and crafting objectives before they can move on to the next section. Completing all three parts will eventually allow you to craft and obtain the Withering Rod in Fish It.

Withering Rod Part 1

The first stage of the Withering Rod questline consists of five objectives:

  1. Own the Diamond Rod (Complete the Diamond Researcher Quest and obtain the Diamond Rod)
  2. Complete the Current Fish Index (For this objective, you do not need to complete the entire Fish Index. Only fish ranging from Common to Mythic rarity are required. Secret and Forgotten rarity fish can be ignored for this step).
  3. Exchange any Mutated Megalodon. First, obtain any mutated Megalodon in the game. Once you have one in your inventory, interact with the Null NPC and select the “More Information” option, followed by “Exchange”. From there, choose the Mutated Megalodon you wish to exchange from your inventory to complete this objective.
  4. Catch a Flame Tyrant. The Flame Tyrant is one of the new fish that can only be caught in the Copper Canyon and the Copper Canyon Mines fishing area. Since it is a high-rarity catch, it is recommended that you use your best fishing rod, equip a high-luck bobber, and fish exclusively in the new areas until you obtain it.
  5. Craft three Oculus Charms.

To obtain the Diamond Rod, you must first complete the Diamond Researcher Quest. Begin by spawning at Fisherman Island and entering the Mutation Cellar. Note that you must be at least Level 5 to access this area. Inside, locate Larry the Scientist and interact with him to activate the Diamond Researcher Quest. The quest requires you to complete the following objectives:

  • Own an Element Rod
  • Catch a Secret fish at Coral Reefs
  • Catch a Secret fish at Tropical Grove
  • Bring Larry a Mutated Gemstone Ruby
  • Bring Larry a Lochness Monster
  • Catch 1,000 fish using Perfect Throw

After completing all of the above requirements, Larry will reward you with a Diamond Key. Take this key to the locked door located behind the potion shelf. Unlock the entrance and proceed down the staircase. At the end of the path, you will find the Diamond Rod resting on top of an elevated platform.

The Oculus Charm can be crafted using the Crafting Bench located beside the Null NPC inside the mine. Each Oculus Charm requires the following materials:

  • 1 Cave Crystal
  • 1 Embercrux
  • 1 Pyrafruit Relic
  • 2 Veilshards

You must craft a total of three Oculus Charms to complete this final objective and finish Withering Rod Part 1.

Withering Rod Part 2

After completing all objectives from Withering Rod Part 1, the second stage of the questline will automatically unlock. Unlike the first section, Part 2 does not require you to complete a list of objectives. Instead, completing Part 1 grants you the ability to obtain two important crafting materials required for the Withering Rod:

  • Withering Reel
  • Withering Handle

Both of these items can be found inside Sunken Treasure Chests that appear during the Shipwreck event.

Withering Rod Part 3

Once Part 1 has been unlocked, you will also gain access to the final stage of the questline. Part 3 unlocks the ability to fish up Withering Cores, another essential crafting component required for the Withering Rod. These can only be obtained by fishing in the Copper Canyon and Copper Canyon Mines fishing locations.

Sunken Treasure Chests are obtained through the Shipwreck event. To locate this event, keep an eye on the event tracker while playing. When a treasure chest icon appears, it indicates that a Treasure Hunt has spawned somewhere on the map. The event spawns randomly and does not provide the exact location, meaning you must search for it manually.

Once the event is active, equip a boat and travel around the map while using your Fish Radar. Look for a location named Treasure Hunt. This event takes place underwater, so you will also need Diving Gear before attempting to access it.

After locating the event, equip your Diving Gear and swim beneath the water’s surface. You will eventually find a wrecked ship resting on the ocean floor. Near the ship, you will find a treasure chest that can be interacted with. Opening the chest will reward you with various items, including the Withering Reel and Withering Handle required for the Withering Rod questline.

After completing the entire questline, your final objective is to gather all three Withering Rod components:

  • Withering Reel
  • Withering Handle
  • Withering Core

Once you have collected the required materials, head back to the Crafting Bench located beside the Null NPC in the Copper Canyon mine and select the Withering Rod recipe. Crafting the rod will consume the required components and reward you with the Withering Rod. After crafting the Rod, the Withering Cores will be returned to your inventory, allowing you to reroll its traits.

What are Withering Cores used for in Fish It?

Withering Cores are one of the key materials required to craft the Withering Rod. However, their usefulness does not end once the Rod has been obtained. After crafting the Rod, you can continue collecting Withering Cores to reroll its attributes. These rerolls can grant different bonuses, including increased Luck, Mutation Chance, Reel Speed, Shiny Chance, and other valuable fishing stats.

Each attribute not only improves the rod’s overall performance but also changes its visual appearance. Different attributes apply unique mutation-style color effects to the Withering Rod, causing its appearance to change depending on the perk currently equipped.
