AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) fired shots at a popular star this week on social media. The incident occurred after the star called out the champion on Dynamite.
This week, Don Callis introduced the TNT Champion Kevin Knight as the newest member of the Don Callis Family. Knight received a warm welcome from Callis and declared his goal of reaching the top of AEW. Knight went on to defeat his former tag team partner “Speedball” Mike Bailey in a singles match. During a promo after the encounter, he sent a direct message to MJF, stating that he had plans to become “Jet2Belts” and is waiting for a showdown with the champ.
This week, the TNT Champion posted a new promotional image on social media. The star was in black leather star-emblazoned gear with his title. He added the caption, “Energy switched,” signaling his change to a darker personality and a heel role in the Don Callis family in AEW. This was in line with his heel turn at Double or Nothing where he attacked Darby Allin. The AEW World Champion took note and claimed that Knight should switch to an energy where he keeps the champ’s name out of his mouth. Friedman was hinting that “The Jet” should drop all aspirations of taking the World title from him.
“Try an energy where you keep my name out of your mouth,” Friedman wrote.
MJF suffered an injury on AEW Dynamite
This week on Dynamite, MJF was scheduled for his first world title defense against Rush. The two stars faced off with the fate of the world championship hanging in the balance. Although, Max managed to retain the title against The Bull, he suffered a hyperextended knee during the encounter. The injury was serious, prompting AEW to pull the star from scheduled appearances outside the company.
Later, Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that the injury was legit, but AEW was hoping that it was not too serious. The Salt of the Earth was not medically cleared to travel or be in the ring. MJF was pulled from Beyond Wrestling’s Break the Walls Down event where he was scheduled to face Bobby Orlando in a singles match.
