Sami Zayn shares a major tease ahead of tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown. Tonight’s show will air live from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash in Italy last month. However, the match ended in controversy as Gunther’s feet were under the ropes when Rhodes went for the cover.
Thanks for the submission!
The Ring General was allowed to pick the stipulation for the title match tonight on SmackDown. During last week’s show, Sami Zayn slapped Cody Rhodes in the face after the former AEW star claimed that he would never be champion.
Gunther then decided that Sami Zayn would be the special guest referee for tonight’s title match. Ahead of tonight’s show, Zayn took to Instagram to share a photo of himself apologizing to Rhodes last week on SmackDown, seemingly suggesting that he felt bad about the incident.
It remains to be seen if Zayn will call the action down the middle tonight or favor one star over the other.
Sami Zayn comments on recent WWE storyline
SmackDown star Sami Zayn recently shared his thoughts on being part of the Gingerbread Man storyline with United States Champion Trick Williams.
Williams defeated Zayn at WrestleMania 42 to become the new United States Champion. There was also a Gingerbread Man included in the rivalry for comedic effect. Speaking on the Huge Pop podcast, Zayn shared that sometimes silly storylines get really over with the WWE Universe, and they have a place in professional wrestling.
“So I don’t think the concept of involving a Gingerbread Man on its own is ridiculous because this is pro wrestling and we do all kinds of fun things that maybe if you were on the internet and you were scrolling Twitter or whatever, and you saw a clip of guys in a ring with a Gingerbread Man, you’d be like, ‘What?’ But in the world of wrestling, there’s context and it kind of makes sense. And sometimes, these things get really over, actually,” said Zayn.
It will be fascinating to see if Gunther can defeat Cody Rhodes tonight on SmackDown to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
