Record-Breaking Champion Breaks Silence After Shock AEW Loss: “What The Literal F*ck”

A record-breaking champion was left shocked after a recent defeat on AEW television. Days later, she finally broke her silence on social media.

The aforementioned star is Athena, the reigning Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, which is the sister promotion of AEW. The Fallen Goddess entered the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament with hopes of winning the entire thing after coming up short in her previous attempts. After defeating Mina Shirakawa in the opening round, Athena was set to battle the upstart star, Maya World.

The rising star had replaced former WWE star Sareee, who was medically not cleared to compete, and defeated Skye Blue in her opening round match. Despite being the clear underdog in front of the veteran Athena, Maya held her own and delivered a spectacular performance against her.

Moreover, the captivating bout led to loud ‘This is Awesome’ chants. As the final moments approached, Athena was visibly frustrated for not being able to secure the pinfall after multiple attempts. This gave Maya the opening to roll up the ROH champion and score the three-count to advance to the finals of the Owen Cup. Following her loss, Athena took to her X to drop a shocked look photo of herself and popular Pokémon, Pikachu, with a four-word message:

“What the literal F*ck…”

AEW star Athena wants to break a major wrestling record

Athena has crossed over 1000-days as the ROH Women’s World Champion. In an interview on the Black Rasslin podcast, the former WWE star said she aimed to break Bruno Sammartino’s legendary record of 2,803 days as champion.

“My goal is to be Bruno Sammartino. That is the ultimate goal. And we are starting year 4. We’ve finished year 3. We’re on year 4. I think I want to do more. I think that’s always going to be my thing. I want to do more,” she said.

While her title reign continues to remain dominant, Athena might have to regroup after suffering a shocking defeat at the hands of rising AEW star Maya World. So, it remains to be seen what is next for the former NXT Women’s Champion.
