Sami Zayn defied the odds to finally claim the Undisputed WWE title at Night of Champions 2026. This led to a former AEW star reacting to his historic victory.
The aforementioned star, who is credited as a WWE legend, is Matt Hardy. The main event of Night of Champions this year featured Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn and Gunther in a triple threat showdown. The match captivated the audience in Riyadh, and the millions watching across the globe on Netflix.
In the closing moments of the epic showdown, Rhodes attempted to finish off Zayn with his finisher, the Cross Rhodes. However, the Underdog from the Underground countered the attempt and used a roll-up to pin the American Nightmare and shock the world by winning his first-ever World Championship in WWE after ten years.
A user on social media asked Matt Hardy about his opinion on Zayn’s monumental victory. The former ECW World Champion took to his X to say that Zayn had been ‘killing it’ for the past few months and was worthy to have a World Championship run.
I dig it. Wrestling is best when it’s unpredictable but still makes sense in the big scheme of things. Sami has been killing it the last few months & def deserving of a championship run. Congrats @SamiZayn!
Sami Zayn’s immediate statement after winning the Undisputed WWE title at Night of Champions 2026
Right after Sami Zayn became the new Undisputed WWE Champion, he was interviewed by Byron Saxton on the stage. The Last Real Good Guy addressed those who said he would never become a World Champion, proudly claiming he deserved it and that he now finally had the gold in his grasp after a decade in the company.
“A lot of folks said I would never win the WWE Championship. But I stand here tonight in front of my people — You’re damn right I deserve it. 20 plus years in the game at the highest level, never got the recognition. 10 plus years chasing this Championship, never got the recognition. I don’t care what happens to me, forever I will be Sami Zayn, WWE Champion.”
With Zayn reaching the top of the mountain, it remains to be seen who will be the first one to step up to him for a title match.
