Tom Brady had a successful NFL career spanning over 23 years. The quarterback played until the age of 45 and won seven Super Bowls during his time with the New England Patriots (6) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1).
However, Brady also had to navigate through multiple injuries during his professional playing days. During an appearance on “The Overlap Podcast” on Monday, he recalled suffering from a sports hernia after the 2006 season.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion also highlighted how the doctors advised him to have surgery.

“After the season, I go in and I tell the doctors that my groin is just really sore all the time,” Brady said. “Every time I move, I can feel it just grab. I got to the team doctor and he says, ‘Well, this is what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna do an adductor release. So we’re gonna in there, and we’re gonna cut the adductor tendon in your groin, and we’re gonna cut the other side as well so that it never becomes a problem.’

“And I was like, ‘Okay, that sounds not like what I want to do. So I called Alex (Gurrero, Brady’s long-time personal body coach), I said, ‘Alex, the doctors told me to do this adductor release. What do you think?’ (Guerrero said), ‘Absolutely not, just fly out here to LA for three days and I’ll fix it.’
Tom Brady said that after visiting Alex Guerrero, the pain was gone and he was feeling better.
After the treatment, the retired quarterback had a solid run during the 2007 season. He helped the Patriots reach Super Bowl XLII undefeated. However, they were defeated by the New York Giants 17-14. Brady was honored as the NFL MVP for his performance.

Tom Brady heaps praise on 4x NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers
On the podcast, Tom Brady also discussed veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He applauded the four-time NFL MVP’s passing skills and labeled him with a one-of-a-kind honor.
“I think there’s no greater passer of the football than Aaron Rodgers,” Brady said as per Troy Montgomery of Steelers Depot. “There’s certain people, you see everyone do it, and then you see one person throw the ball that much better. Aaron Rodgers was incredible.
“It’s hard to put into words how incredible he passes the ball. The way it comes out of his hand, the way it spins and delivers with the pace and the accuracy. … There’s only probably three people in the history of the NFL that could do it like him.”
After the 2025 season, there was a lot of uncertainty about whether Rodgers would consider retirement. However, in May, the 42-year-old broke his silence and decided to return to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year, $25 million deal.
