Ratthew is a friendly character in Animal Hospital whose background is enshrouded with mystery. He is a black anthropomorphic rat with a pink curled tail, first introduced during the third shift in the hospital. Although cordial with the player, this character prefers to remain in the shadows as he has a hard time trusting anyone and possesses information about the government in the game.
During one of the conversations with him, you are given a small key by Ratthew. This key lets you unlock a safe that gives more information about Ratthew and his twin sister, Rattina, in Animal Hospital.
How to get Ratthew’s key in Animal Hospital
Ratthew does not hand you a key. Instead, he leaves it behind on the table alongside a note mentioning that the key was taken from a doctor.
You get Ratthew’s key during the fifth interaction with the character. Here’s what the friendly rat says in every interaction:
- First interaction: Ratthew mentions that being small is advantageous because he gets to learn about others in secrecy and see things others do not.
- Second interaction: In the second visit, the rat tells the player that they are good because they do not treat him as an outcast. He also warns not to trust anyone in the hospital.
- Third interaction: Ratthew becomes more expressive about his feelings with the player. He expresses sadness about people mistaking him for an anomaly, since he is different from most. He again thanks the player for their support.
- Fourth interaction: This is the most important interaction. Ratthew reveals that he chewed up experiment reports in the office of Ron from Accounting. Moreover, it is hinted that he has a background involved in government affairs and is working against the system as if he were a secret agent.
- Fifth interaction: The fifth interaction begins with Ratthew telling the player he has to disappear for a while. He enters the check-in booth, sits atop a table, and mentions briefly his sister Rattina, who used to be “the smart one in the family” before disappearing.
Ratthew mentions that he had been searching for Rattina for a while. Once the conversation is over, he leaves a small key and a note on the table. The note says, “Took this key from the doc…”, although the name of the doctor and their whereabouts aren’t mentioned.
You can use Ratthew’s key to open a hidden safe inside the hospital. Like Barney, there is more to Ratthew than what meets the eye.
How to use Ratthew’s key in Animal Hospital
After acquiring the key, head to Room 5 inside the hospital. You’ll notice a poster on the wall, behind which there is a hidden safe containing classified items.
Opening the safe reveals a black suitcase with the words “Top Secret” written on its side, a note stating that the “experiment was a success”, and a photo of a rat with a pink bow on its ear. This particular rat could be Rattina, who disappeared a while ago according to Ratthew.
