Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla has continued her condemnation of France captain Kylian Mbappe after his performance eliminated her nation from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Les Bleus beat Paraguay 1-0 in the Round of 16 of the tournament courtesy of a penalty from the skipper (70′). After the game, Amarilla released her first controversial statement that was filled with racist remarks towards the 27-year-old forward.
Thanks for the submission!
Among other things, she claimed that Mbappe is a ‘colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French’ and called him ‘resentful, newly rich, arrogant and ugly’. In response, the Real Madrid man labelled her as a ‘despicable’ and ‘incompetent’ woman who ruined Paraguay’s image with her ‘recklessness’ and ‘brazen racism’.
Amarilla then released a statement threatening legal action for ‘gender violence’ unless he retracted his statement and apologized to her. Without waiting for a reply from the Frenchman, she continued her attack during a speech in the Paraguayan parliament.
The 61-year-old senator said (via @TouchlineX on X):
“Greeting people is part of who we are in Paraguay. Saying hello, wishing people a good day, asking for a blessing… that’s our culture. What made us all angry was seeing Orlando Gill, a young player, proudly offer Mbappe his hand in true Paraguayan humility, only for him to ignore it and shout at him. A French person would never have done that. Never. Never.”
With seven goals and two assists in five games, Mbappe has been one of the best players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is leading France‘s charge towards the coveted title that they have previously won on two occasions – 1998 and 2018.
“He’s ready” – France head coach Didier Deschamps makes claim about Kylian Mbappe ahead of FIFA World Cup quarter-final vs Morocco
France boss Didier Deschamps has claimed that superstar attacker Kylian Mbappe is ‘ready’ for the FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash against Morocco.
With a squad full of stars, Deschamps’ side are widely regarded as one of the favourites to win the World Cup title. With 13 goals scored and just two goals conceded, Les Bleus have won all five of their games en route to the quarter-final.
Ahead of their game against the Atlas Lions, Mbappe was shockingly subjected to a racist attack by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla. While the parliamentarian faced heavy backlash for her comments, fans and pundits have raised questions about the French captain’s state of mind ahead of the all-important clash.
Deschamps has cleared the air on the matter, asserting that the off-field controversy has not affected their preparation in any way, shape or form. The 57-year-old tactician said (via GOAL):
“Kylian is in a good place mentally. He’s ready for tomorrow.”
France will lock horns with Morocco in a mouth-watering quarter-final encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday (July 9).
