Team India lost yet another series, following a nine-wicket loss against England in the fourth T20I. The hosts sealed the five-match series 3-0 with a game to spare.
Batting first, the Men in Blue posted a respectable total of 158/7. Skipper Shreyas Iyer top-scored with an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls. However, the rest of the batters failed to make significant contributions. The total was below par and never enough to challenge England.
The hosts got over the line comfortably in just 13.5 overs, making light work of the chase on the back of unbeaten half-centuries from Phil Salt and Harry Brook. It turned out to be another one-sided affair as India struggled to put up a fight.
That said, let us take a look at five unwanted records made by the visitors during their embarrassing series defeat following the loss in the fourth T20I.
#5 First T20I series defeat against England after 12 years
For the first time after 12 years, India failed to beat England in a T20I series. With just one game remaining, the Men in Blue have conceded the ongoing series. The last time this happened was back in 2014.
During the 2014 tour of England, India played a one-off T20I, which they lost by three runs. Batting first, the hosts posted a total of 180/7. The visitors got close, but fell agonisingly short, finishing at 177/5.
#4 First defeat in a bilateral series against England (any format) since 2018
Since 2018, India had never lost a bilateral series in any format against England, with eight out of ten wins, including two draws in the last two Test series in England. In this phase, they won three T20I, three ODI, and two Test series.
For the first time since 2018, they suffered a series defeat against England (all formats included).
#3 Third biggest defeat margin by balls remaining in T20Is
The defeat against England in the fourth T20I was their third biggest by margin of balls remaining in the format. As England chased down the target in just 13.5 overs, they won by 37 balls to spare.
The biggest defeat margin by balls remaining in T20Is for the Men in Blue came against Australia in 2008, where the hosts won by 52 balls to spare in Melbourne. The second such biggest defeat also came against Australia at the same venue in 2025, when the hosts won by 40 balls remaining.
#2 First time India have lost back-to-back T20I series since the 2018/19 season
This was the first time that India lost back-to-back T20I series since the 2018/19 season. The series defeats against Ireland and England come as a shocker for the world champions.
In February 2019, the Men in Blue suffered a 1-2 defeat in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand. They faced a whitewash in the subsequent T20I series against Australia at home, losing 0-2.
#1 Second Indian captain to lose back-to-back T20I series
Facing another series defeat at the very start of his tenure as T20I skipper, Shreyas Iyer became only the second captain of the Men in Blue to lose back-to-back T20I series.
Virat Kohli was the first captain to achieve this unwanted feat. Under him, the team lost 1-2 to New Zealand in the three-match series and 0-2 to Australia in the two-match series in 2019.
