Rapper Drake has thrown his support behind Conor McGregor ahead of his UFC 329 return, placing a massive $1 million wager on the Irish superstar. Suffice it to say, his opponent, Max Holloway, is not too concerned, given the infamous Drake curse and its track record in MMA.
Earlier this week, the ‘God’s Plan’ singer posted a picture of his $1 million bet on McGregor with a potential $2.8 million payout on Instagram, writing:
“THE MAC IS BACK?!?!?? The Proper [No.] Twelve-drinking, tailored-suit-wearing, Lambo-Yacht-riding man with the Dubai tan who once had both belts in both hands…Say less @stake”
During a backstage media interaction at the UFC 329 ceremonial weigh-ins, Holloway laughed off the musician’s bet, with a sly reference to the infamous Drake curse:

“Drake actually is a Max Holloway fan because we know what happens when he bets. So, shout out to Drake.”

The Drake curse is a long-running internet joke that suggests athletes or teams backed by the hip-hop star are destined for high-profile losses or misfortune.
McGregor’s UFC 229 defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Anthony Joshua’s shocking upset loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019 are among the most notable events associated with the supposed curse.
The so-called curse, however, has lost steam in recent times, with the rapper winning big on numerous occasions. With UFC 329 set to take place this Saturday, July 11, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, it won’t be long before fans discover whether the betting jinx hits yet again.
Conor McGregor not impressed by Max Holloway’s boxing
Max Holloway is one of the best strikers in the UFC and arguably one of the promotion’s finest pure boxers. ‘Blessed’ even proclaimed himself the UFC’s best boxer during his spectacular performance against Calvin Kattar in 2021. Conor McGregor, however, does not believe his opponent deserves the label.
During the UFC 329 pre-fight press conference, McGregor was asked whether he considered Holloway the best boxer in the UFC. The Irishman didn’t hesitate to dismiss the notion, saying:
“I think his boxing is abysmal. I don’t rate it once. He has one gear, and it’s not impressive. Very rarely have we seen magic inside the octagon from Max Holloway, Lil Evil Holloway. Saturday night, he gets destroyed.”
