It has been a frustrating period for Sami Zayn recently, but if there is any light at the end of the tunnel, it’s the fact that he is already back in the WWE Title picture. His opponent for SummerSlam 2026 is now confirmed, with that star having gotten revenge after almost 720 days.
It was announced ahead of time that Sami Zayn will be competing at SummerSlam 2026, and his opponent would be determined in a Fatal-4-Way match, with the stipulation at SummerSlam being that it is a WWE Title #1 contender’s match. For Sami, this means everything as his dream World Championship run was abruptly cut off after just nine days. His opponent was going to either be Finn Balor, Royce Keys, Damian Priest, or United States Champion Trick Williams. There were tensions between Finn Balor and Damian Priest, naturally stemming from the summer of 2024, specifically SummerSlam that year, when Balor betrayed Damian Priest and cost him the World Heavyweight Championship.
Thanks for the submission!
Priest got the better of Finn Balor that year, but on 24th July, just eight days before SummerSlam, Balor pinned Damian Priest, getting a measure of revenge after 719 days (that was how long ago SummerSlam 2024 was). Now, Balor has been confirmed as Sami Zayn’s SummerSlam opponent and will be competing for a WWE title shot after the big show.
Damian Priest will have to go back to the drawing board, but for now, he has a Tag Team Title match coming up. Royce Keys was the man who was almost certain to win, but interference from The Usos and Jacob Fatu cost him despite LA Knight and Solo Sikoa coming to assist. Fatu strategically timed his appearance to ensure Keys got the short end of the stick.
As for Trick Williams, he wasn’t a big force in this match.
