Todd Gilliland and Front Row Motorsports walked away from Indianapolis Motor Speedway $1 million richer after clinching NASCAR’s In-Season Challenge title by defeating Ryan Blaney. Despite starting deep in the field and struggling for baseline pace throughout the afternoon, Gilliland’s 24th-place finish was enough to outlast Team Penske driver Blaney (26th) after a late-race restart crash flipped the script.
For the majority of the afternoon, the $1 million prize appeared destined for Blaney’s hands. The reigning Cup Series champion qualified 13th and held track position well clear of Gilliland, who found himself buried in 36th following a difficult qualifying effort. However, the tide turned with 40 laps remaining when Blaney was tagged from behind by John Hunter Nemechek, sending the No. 12 Ford spinning toward the wall.

Reflecting on the same, Gilliland said (via racer.com):
“It feels really good. Obviously, we wish we ran a little bit better than 24th today, but we did what we had to do. Really, that was the name of our game all the way throughout this challenge; we just barely skated by. We were obviously a bit lucky, but we still stuck out these races. We did the best we could, and luckily it was good enough, just barely, every single round.
“It’s a big prize. One million dollars going to the team. That’s just massive. Our team deserves it. They all ramped up and worked extremely hard, so I’m just super proud of everyone for what they’ve done. Hopefully, we can keep building on this and the intensity that we’re able to achieve,” added Todd Gilliland.
While a 24th-place finish isn’t typically cause for celebration in the Cup Series garage, the outcome delivered the biggest financial windfall of Gilliland’s career, and a signature moment for Front Row Motorsports.

Front Row Motorsports has locked in a key pillar of its future, officially announcing a contract extension for Todd Gilliland to remain behind the wheel of the No. 34 Ford Mustang through the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Gilliland’s connection to Front Row Motorsports runs deeper than most driver-team pairings in the garage. The 26-year-old driver first joined the organization at the start of the 2020 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, delivering FRM a memorable victory at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in 2021.
Since stepping up to NASCAR’s premier level in 2022, Todd Gilliland has raced exclusively for Front Row, systematically building consistency season after season. Moreover, following Michael McDowell’s departure, Gilliland transitioned to FRM’s signature No. 34 ride, pairing with crew chief Chris Lawson.
