Love in Sync episodes 7 & 8 (finale) recap: Can Eun-hwan uncover the reality behind Ji-an’s energy abuse scandal?

On July 25 and 25, episodes 7 and 8 of Love in Sync aired on the Lifetime network in South Korea.

The fantasy rom-com K-drama follows the story of Yoo Ji-an and Cha Eun-hwan. Ji-an, an actress who wishes to work on serious projects but struggles to display emotions on-screen, approaches Eun-hwan, a celebrated psychological counselor, for therapy. However, their paths get inexplicably intertwined through emotional transference.

Episode 7 of Love in Sync opens with Eun-hwan finding an important link to Mi Jeong’s whereabouts. The disciplinary action that the Korean Psychological Counselling Association (KPCA) took against him has also been nullified. Meanwhile, Ji-an and Yi Jin arrive on set for their shooting together, where the former apologizes to the latter for everything. Ji-an’s brilliant performance on the set is later applauded, after which the unwell actress collapses.

Eun-hwan is getting closer to uncovering the truth behind Ji-an’s scandal when the actress’s mother lands in Korea. On the other hand, another rainy-day incident brings back Ji-an’s childhood memory of an accident involving Eun-hwan’s father.

Episode 8 of Love in Sync opens with Ji-an apologizing to Eun-hwan for the accident that led to his father’s death, when her mother interrupts. As revelations about Ji-an’s mother come to light, the actress escapes from the media and is later found by Eun-hwan. The two talk things out before kissing.

The timeline of the series then jumps a year ahead, where both Ji-An and Eun-hwan’s careers have been thriving. The two reunite in a field as the drama comes to an end.

The seventh episode of Love in Sync opens with a meeting between Eun-hwan and the detective that he has hired for help in uncovering Ji-an’s scandal.

The detective informs him that shortly after Mi Jeong posted the bullying video of Ji-an online, her mother, who had been battling cancer for a long time, passed away. Since her mother’s death, Mi Jeong has not been spotted. The detective had already informed the hospital to contact him should she appear there.

With hopes of finding Mi Jeong soon, Eun-hwan returns home, where she apologizes to his sister for his recent absences and checks on a sleeping Ha Yul. He also receives a notice from the Korea Psychological Counselling Association (KPCA) stating that the disciplinary action that required him to shut down his practice has been nullified. This means that Eun-hwan can now safely return to work.

The scene of Love in Sync then shifts to the movie set of Director Moon’s project, where Ji-an and Yi Jin cross paths. After her conversation with Eun-hwan, Ji-an seems to have developed a soft spot for the younger actress and apologizes to her for everything.

Eun-hwan then joins Ji-an on the set and watches her perform her lines immersively. As everybody applauds her acting, Ji-an collapses from fever. Eun-hwan drops her home and then heads out. He finds the script of the shelved indie film Ji-an was part of, only to discover that what she had said in the viral bullying video matches with her lines in the movie, establishing Ji-an’s innocence.

Additionally, the detective also traces a large deposit into Mi Jeong’s account back to Yi Jin’s account, right before the video went viral. As the two are discussing what this could mean, Ji-an overhears everything and is furious. She storms into Yi Jin’s dressing room and slaps her. The slapping has once again been captured as Jin’s assistant was filming her blog.

Things escalate in Love in Sync as CEO Kim – who now represents Yi Jin – demands that Ji-an be fired for her assault. Director Moon agrees, suspending Ji-an from the project.

Later, as Eun-hwan visits the defeated Ji-an at home to console her, she first tries to push him away, then collapses into his arms as she pleads with him not to abandon her.

The next morning, Ji-an wakes up to her meal already prepared, with a letter in which Eun-hwan promises to help her navigate the scandal. Meanwhile, the counselor visits the memorial of Mi Jeong’s mother, where he finds the assistant. Jeong quickly confesses to him, revealing that it was CEO Kim who had promised to get her mother treated by a good doctor if she leaked the video.

Eun-hwan also manages to find photos of the CEO discreetly meeting reporter Han. As he confronts the reporter, Han comes clean too, revealing that the CEO paid him to publish the scandalous article about Ji-an.

Elsewhere in Love in Sync, Mi Jeong is feeling particularly guilty about everything that Ji-an had to go through because of her video, and writes her an earnest confession letter.

Ji-an gets emotional as she reads it. Eun-hwan appears and invites her to spend a carefree day with him. The two spend quality time enjoying each other’s company. As it comes to an end, Eun-hwan kisses her.

The following day, Ji-an’s former manager, Do Hoon, arrives at her home, tells her that Eun-hwan is no longer her manager, and proposes to rejoin the position. A shocked Ji-An tries to find Eun-hwan upon hearing this, but he is unreachable.

As Ji-an’s futile search for Eun-hwan continues, her mother lands in South Korea. On the other hand, Eun-hwan finally listens to all of her voicemails and visits her. When Ji-an accuses him of trying to distance himself from her, Eun-hwan admits that he finds her ability to hear his thoughts terrifying and is therefore no longer willing to work as her manager.

Later that day, while Eun-hwan is on the hunt for a new space for his clinic, a heavy downpour reminds him of Ji-an’s claustrophobia. Ji-an, who is in her dressing room, gets a call from her mother at the same time. Just then, the power goes out, and she gets a short flashback from her childhood.

In the memory, Ji-an had volunteered to be in a warehouse alone. Then, a fire broke out, and a man risked his life to save hers. The episode comes to a close as she realizes that it was Eun-hwan’s father who had saved her.

The finale episode of Love in Sync opens with Do Hoon rescuing Ji-an from the locked dressing room. As soon as she’s out, Ji-an rushes to meet Eun-hwan and apologises to him about the fire accident from their childhood. Their conversation is interrupted as her mother arrives, launching into the role of a concerned mother.

Ji-an then asks her if she was the one who had rescued her from the fire all those years ago. Viewers then see a flashback in which Ji-an’s mother blames her for her stubbornness in filming in an empty warehouse, where a fire broke out. After Ji-an was rescued, her mother also told her that she had saved her life, hiding the fact that it was Eun-hwan’s father who died in the process of rescuing her.

Just like her childhood, Ji-an’s mother tries to regain control of her career once again. Meanwhile, Ji-an visits Song Hwan to apologize for her father’s death, and then goes to Yi Jin, who is still angry about her slap. Yi Jin admits that she had nothing to do with Ji-an’s scandal and doesn’t want to see her face again.

The scene of Love in Sync then shifts to focus on CEO Kim, who recalls a conversation with Ji-an’s mother. Her mother first entrusted Ji-an’s career with him, but was later pissed when the actress chose to lead her life on her own terms. It was out of spite that her mother had asked the CEO to ruin the actress’s image in public, which kickstarted the power abuse scandal.

Ji-an’s mother also comes across Eun-hwan on Director Moon’s movie set, where she warns her to stop seeing her daughter.

When Eun-hwan refuses to back out of his responsibility as Ji-an’s counselor, her mother laughs in his face. She then mockingly compares him to his dead father. She also reveals that Ji-an has no idea who saved her from the fire all those years ago.

On the other hand, Ji-an feels defeated in both her professional and personal life, and starts drinking to dull her sorrows. She goes under the radar, with the news of her disappearance being all over the internet.

Eun-hwan is worried about her well-being and joins Do Hoon in searching for her. He later learns that she might’ve gone to the fishing spot that he had gone to some time ago.

When Eun-hwan finds her, he apologizes to her and hugs her, then tells her how her mother was behind the whole power abuse scandal. With Eun-hwan’s help, Ji-an files a lawsuit against her mother and terminates the contracts that her mother had signed on her behalf.

In the following days of Love in Sync, Eun-hwan sticks by Ji-an’s side as she navigates things. She asks him to take her to his father’s memorial. Once there, Ji-an asks how he could forgive her after his father died. Eun-hwan responds by saying that her pain and guilt were the reason why he couldn’t hate her. He then kisses her.

The story of Love in Sync then moves to a year later, where Ji-an receives the Best Supporting Actress award for the film with Director Moon. She’s also teaching a beginner actress how to perform emotional scenes better.

Meanwhile, Eun-hwan is delivering a lecture on empathy. Song Hwan’s relationship with her daughter, Ha Yul, has also mended. She holds a solo exhibition of her paintings in a gallery. When Eun-hwan arrives at the exhibition, Song Hwan apologises to him for blaming him for everything.

The final scene of Love in Sync takes place at Eun-hwan’s father’s memorial, where he finds a bouquet, realizing that Ji-an must’ve just visited him. As he runs towards the exit, he finds Ji-an in the field, where they have a tearful reunion.

All the loose ends in the plot of Love in Sync were tied up neatly in the finale episode, indicating that there’s little likelihood of a second season of the K-drama.
