Fresh reports have emerged regarding Lionel Messi’s potential return to action for Inter Miami. The Argentina captain is reportedly now ready to make his highly anticipated comeback and is in contention for the club’s upcoming Leagues Cup opener against Atletico San Luis.
According to journalist Jose Armando, Lionel Messi arrived in Fort Lauderdale at around 5 a.m. before heading straight to Inter Miami’s training headquarters, where he joined his teammates for training. The report adds that the 39-year-old is now 100% fit and expected to be thrown into the mix.

While Inter Miami are yet to officially confirm his availability, Armando’s update has already gotten football fans elated as they look forward to watching the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner run riot on the pitch once again.
The update comes after the player’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup where Argentina lost to Spain 1-0 in the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19.
Lionel Messi was at the top of his game during the tournament, recording eight goals and four assists to his name in eight appearances. Unfortunately, the Albiceleste couldn’t defend the trophy, putting an end to what was nothing short of a brilliant run for them in the competition.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami have coped well in the absence of their talisman. They’ve played two matches without him so far and won both, beating Chicago City 3-2 on July 23 before snatching a 1-0 win over Montreal in their last game on July 26.
Their highly anticipated clash with San Luis in the Leagues Cup will take place at the Nu Stadium on Thursday, August 6. The Herons will go head-to-head with Columbus in the MLS on Sunday, August 2nd. It remains to be seen if the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will feature in the Leagues Cup opener.

Lionel Messi is enjoying another prolific outing in front of goal with Inter Miami this season. The 39-year-old opened his account for the campaign with a brace in the 4-2 victory over Orlando City away from home in the MLS on March 2nd.
He followed it up with another strike as the Herons earned a 2-1 win over DC United in their next game. Since then, he’s now played 16 games in all competitions, recording 13 goals and seven assists to his name.
As it stands, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has played a total of 104 matches since signing for the club in 2023, contributing 90 goals and 51 assists. He still has some time to add more to those numbers before his contract runs out in December 2027.
