Mistfall Hunter has various classes to pick from, and perhaps the most user-friendly is Mercenary. This class is for those who want the perfect balance of offense vs defense in order to adapt to any situation, whether that is against tough bosses or other enemy players.

The ability to parry and block also makes the Mercenary ideal for newcomers and beginners, especially if they like the standard “warrior” class style from other fantasy RPGs. Read on to learn more, including the best Mercenary build.

Before we delve into the details, it is important to know how Mercenary functions in Mistfall Hunter. This class has two playstyles:

  • Sword & Shield: The sword strikes enemies via Stacked Slash, gaining stacks of Sword Tip, which makes the Mercenary even more effective in battle
  • Hammer: This is a two-handed weapon that allows the Mercenary to become an unstoppable force thanks to AOE (area-of-effect attacks), thanks to Earthshatter that also grants Super Armor when charging up

As should be clear by now, the Sword & Shield combo is much more beginner-friendly, allowing you to smooth over mistakes with blocking while also offering decent mobility. On the other hand, wielding the Hammer and its winding attacks leaves you open to counterattacks from more agile classes.

That said, Mercenary can wear heavy armor and has a good amount of health, allowing it to tank hits from other classes. What it cannot match with the rest of the units in Mistfall Hunter is sheer damage output, as something like Shadowstrix farm outperforms it in the DPS department. Still, it is a great pick that performs well in both PvE and PvP scenarios.

We recommend sticking with the Sword & Shield combo due to it being a lot more versatile than the Hammer. As such, you will want to focus on stacking Sword Tip to buff yourself into the Blade Edge and Strong Edge states, while also increasing your defense to become tankier and enhance survivability.

Here are the Talents that are a no-brainer for the Mercenary in Mistfall Hunter:

  • Sword Edge: This is a Talent no Sword & Shield build should go without, as it grants Sword Tip even from Sword skills as well, allowing you to get into Blade Edge and the subsequent Strong Edge states faster.
  • Blade Charge: Increases damage dealt by Sword & Shield attacks when in either Edge state.
  • Stacking Blade: Reduces Sword Tip stack requirement to enter Blade Edge and Strong Edge from just 4 stacks per state. This allows you to use your skills more often as you upshift more often.
  • Opportunist: Increases movement speed while blocking. Since being kited by agile classes is the Mercenary’s greatest nightmare, this Talent should help alleviate this by offering a little boost to mobility while also ensuring you are not a sitting duck when playing defensively.
  • Rising to the Challenge: Stuns enemies when blocking during Shield Dash, which allows you to get in a few extra hits that can mean all the difference between life and death.
  • Resilient Body: Grants stacks of Indomitable Will (which increases physical resistance) when using skills. Grants 2 stacks when charge-type skills reach the next phase and 1 stack when using hold-type skills.

How to play Mercenary in Mistfall Hunter

The Mercenary is a frontliner tank that lays the pressure on foes while soaking up damage and protecting allies (if you are playing co-op). Never leave yourself exposed and use your cooldowns smartly, as opponents will try to bait them out. Time abilities so that you can tank incoming hits using Super Armor, which would normally stun you otherwise.

You will also find yourself at a disadvantage against ranged classes in Mistfall Hunter like the Sorcerer or Shadowstrix, so try to inch closer with your mobility skills and minimize incoming damage with defensive maneuvers while also closing the gap towards them.

Other than that, the Mercenary is a pretty straightforward class that can be picked up and effectively played by anyone. As with other PvP games, it is best not to be too greedy when attacking foes, especially if you are sticking with the Hammer playstyle.
