Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield said last week that he failed to agree to a contract extension with the team as the Pro Bowler felt “disrespected” by the offer.
In a conversation with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield said that the length of the contract was “the most disappointing part” for him. The Bucs reportedly offered him a two-year deal.

“Mayfield is within his right to say, ‘I don’t like this offer.’ But to call the offer disrespectful, you judge for yourself,” Schefter said. “The Bucs essentially offered a two-year extension averaging over $50 million a year. And the money, the total money in the three years, would have put him in the top-5 quarterbacks in the game.

“But, I don’t think he liked the length of the deal. I don’t think that he liked that it was a two-year extension that would contractually tie him to three years. The money in his mind was off and he felt disrespected.”
While Mayfield said he won’t be speaking to the organization about the contract unless ” he’s recognized for his value,” the Buccaneers have until the end of the season to revise their offer.

Baker Mayfield warned the franchise that the negotiations are gonna “get worse” as is expecting a “have a really big year” in the final season of his Buccaneers contract.
Adam Schefter said that the Buccaneers were “disappointed” about his the contract talks unraveled.
“So Baker was insulted; we heard from him,” Schefter said. “The Buccaneers, I think, were disappointed with the way everything went down and what he said. And it creates a rather uncomfortable situation for everybody.”
