Rangifer in Beast of Reincarnation is the main boss of the first main chapter, Seedling. It is basically a giant elk with huge horns covered in flowers and shrubbery. Since it is the first Nushi you encounter in the game, defeating it may seem rather difficult. However, by exploiting its weaknesses, you can easily beat it and progress to Chapter 2.
This guide covers how to defeat Rangifer in Beast of Reincarnation.
How to beat Rangifer in Beast of Reincarnation
First encounter

During Chapter 1 of Beast of Reincarnation, you will have to defeat Rangifer twice. During the first encounter, you face the Nushi at Level 9. As mentioned above, the enemy is a giant elk that can rush at you and close the gap between you quickly. As such, outrunning it is not an option.
Rather, you should position yourself by Rangifer’s front hoofs and keep parrying and dodging incoming attacks. He performs the following moves:
- Head slam
- Front leg stomp
- Sideways head swipes
- Using antlers to throw rocks

After completing each of these moves, the enemy gets stationary for a few moments, which is the perfect opening to attack the weak spot, which is Rangifer’s head.
Furthermore, Rangifer is also weak to the Fire element. As such, Fire-type attacks from your weapons or Koo should be prioritized.
Midway through the fight, the monster will also begin summoning trees from the ground. You can sling onto them to gain some height, or even jump onto the enemy.
Slowly chip away at Rangifer’s HP, and you will be able to progress ahead in the Seedling quest of Beast of Reincarnation.
Second encounter

By the end of the first chapter, you will face off against Rangifer again. This time around, the Nushi is at Level 12 and follows the same attack pattern as before. Therefore, avoid stomps, parry side swipes, and target the enemy’s head to bring it down.
However, unlike the first fight, the Nushi will not be defeated upon depleting its HP. Instead, the second round of the boss fight will begin.

During phase two of the Rangifer battle, the enemy is much more agile and powerful. Furthermore, it can also enter a special Enraged state where it gets stronger for a combo, and its body glows pink.
While it retains all of its original moves, it has also gained access to the following two moves that must be dodged:
- Summon trees from the ground in a straight line to attack
- Summon several trees on the ground after using head slam
Both of these attacks can be quite lethal if they land; as such, you must be prepared to dodge them. Apart from that, the strategy for the second phase remains the same: find an opening between attacks to reduce the enemy’s health.
Tips to defeat Rangifer in Beast of Reincarnation
Here are some tips that you should remember for the Rangifer boss fight:
- Other than the stomping attack, all moves can be parried.
- Stomping attacks cannot be parried, so you need to dodge them. Triggering perfect dodge will also give you a counterattack slash.
- Use entanglement overdrive when Rangifer is stationary, and its head is down. This move can slow down time while the gauge is active. Use your strongest Blade Art chain combo during this period to deal maximum damage.
- Use acid weapons, and have Koo equip some Fire or Lightning elemental attacks (depending on the encounter).
- You can check Rangifer’s (or any boss’s) weakness by checking the symbol on the left side of its health bar.
You should note that you will face off against Rangifer in Chapter 5 at Level 32, where its moveset will essentially be the same. It will also be a two-phase battle just like before, but this time around, the foe will be weak to the Lightning element instead of Fire.
