French autonomy bill ‘fails to recognize existence of Corsican people’, they claim.
Masked and heavily armed, Corsican separatists decried the autonomy bill as a ‘farce’, and threatened tourists against moving to the island or buying second homes.
They warned that these visitors are not safe on ‘national territory’.
The Telegraph reported:
“About a dozen armed, hooded members of the clandestine Corsican National Liberation Front-Union of Combatants (FLNC-UC) appeared in a video published on Thursday, carrying submachine guns and sniper rifles.
‘Until our national rights are recognized and respected, we have only one message for them: stay at home’, the group’s leader said in a distorted voice, warning those who ignored the message not to consider themselves safe.”

The French autonomy bill for the island was adopted by the lower house in June, to be examined by the Senate this fall.
“’The Corsican people will never be a vulgar administrative community’, the leader said, vowing to oppose any attempt to deny their national identity.”
The only media outlet invited to attend the clandestine press conference was the local Corse Matin.
“As part of their message, the group also attacked the flow of 5,000 foreigners, ‘the vast majority of whom are French’, who move to the island either to work or buy second homes.”
