Drake Maye thinks he knows how to appease moody wide receivers like his new teammate A.J. Brown, but a certain fanbase disagrees.
During practice on Wednesday, the New England Patriots quarterback was asked what it would take to keep his aerial corps happy. He said:

“I think the best thing for that is winning. Nobody really tries to complain when you win games. I think nobody’s really that prideful in this sport about personal stats when you’re winning games. … I think my job isn’t to try to make everybody happy. I think my job’s to have the offense move up and down the field, and score points.”

His response was met with mockery from Philadelphia Eagles fans, who are apparently still bitter at how Brown forced himself out of town:
The trade for Brown was the headliner of the Patriots’ offseason offensive revamp, which also involved signing former Green Bay Packer Romeo Doubs. The two join holdovers DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, tight end Hunter Henry and running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson – a skill position group that Maye has plenty of good to say about:
“We have a lot of depth and a lot of guys that really want to get in there and make plays. That’s the best thing about it. It’s competitive in there. You have guys that are making plays all across the board, so it’s my job to get them the ball. They’re better runners than I am, so get them the football and let them do their thing.”

Speaking of Hunter Henry, Drake Maye can only be grateful to him for molding him into the quarterback that he is today.
The veteran tight end first joined the Patriots in 2021 and made an immediate impact, leading all players at his position in receiving touchdowns and reaching the playoffs. However, quarterback inconsistencies and coaching incompetence held him back over the next three seasons, and it would not be until Mike Vrabel arrived in 2025 that he saw success again.
That year, he had a career-high 768 yards and caught his first-ever playoff touchdown, eventually reaching Super Bowl LX. And for Maye, playing with someone like him has been “a blessing”:
“He was one of my veterans, the first guy who reached out to me when I got drafted. Guys like Hunter are some of the best teammates I’ll be around in my career. And I’m just not taking that for granted and trying to pick his brain, and how many stories he has back [from his time] with Antonio Gates and Philip Rivers.”
The Patriots’ preseason begins against the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
