Having signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract to join the Washington Nationals ahead of the 2026 season, Miles Mikolas has struggled mighily for consistency, pitching to a 5.82 ERA.His ERA the worst among any starter with 115+ innings this year.
As a result, the Nationals have decided to part ways with the veteran, designating him for assignment on Wednesday.

Nationals manager speaks after Miles Mikolas’ DFA
Speaking to MLB.com’s Jessica Camerato soon after Miles Mikolas was DFA’d, Washington Nationals manager Blake Butera commended his qualities as a player and person.
“Look, it’s never easy,” said manager Blake Butera. “Miles was an unbelievable person, unbelievable teammate. couldn’t thank him enough for being the type of person he’s been,” Butera said. “We’ve thrown a lot at him.
“From using an opener in front of him, to having him pitch a little bit shorter, to having him go to the bullpen to do a variety of things, and had a smile on his face every time. Somebody that’s pitching in the big leagues as long as he has could have easily told me to go shove it and [that] he’s not doing those things. But he didn’t.”
Prospect Jackson Kent will replace Mikolas in the Nats‘ lineup.
