Maika Dumais has made her presence known with the Boston Hunters in the Women’s Pro Baseball League. Boston picked the Quebec City, Canada-born baseball player in the second round of the draft. She adds versatility to the roster as a two-way phenom (right-handed pitcher and outfielder) and has emerged as one of the team’s promising talents.
In an interview after earning player of the game honors on Monday, she said:
“Honestly, I just wanted my first hit, but I’ve been thinking about getting a hit, getting a hit. Today, I was more like, ‘OK, just keep your eyes on the ball and let the ball fly,’ so I was like, ‘Just be yourself, and it’s gonna happen.’ So, yeah, I just did that. And we won! So, let’s go!”

She also celebrated her excitement after the Boston Hunters’ opening week on Instagram on Aug. 11. She thanked fans who came to support the team, called the experience “truly amazing” and added that she’s looking forward to the rest of the season.
Boston announced the signing in January as another standout addition from Quebec’s baseball talent pool.
Before joining the Hunters, Dumais reflected on the end of a three-year chapter in November on social media:
“One last time. 3 years, 6 events with some of the best. I’m so grateful for everything and for everyone who made these possible. ❤️❤️⚾️⚾️ I truly learned a lot and it has helped me become a better player 😁😁.”
Dumais was on the 2024 Baseball Canada 16U roster. According to Le Soleil, she was the youngest player chosen in the draft in November at the age of 17.
Before moving to Canada for her senior year of high school, Dumais lived in Redondo Beach, California. She played softball for Redondo Union High School.
Dumais, who is 18, also spent three years with MLB Develops Girls Baseball, which is a joint product of MLB and USA Baseball to instruct female baseball players.
Away from the field, Dumais said she likes to paint to “relax, stay present and recharge mentally before competition.”
Boston Hunters make history as one of the WPBL’s inaugural teams
The Boston Hunters are one of the four inaugural teams competing in the Women’s Pro Baseball League. The other teams are the Los Angeles Queens, New York Heights and San Francisco Firebells.
Along with Maika Dumais, the team also selected South Korean catcher Hyeonah Kim as the fourth pick in the draft.
The Hunters are playing their 2026 season at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.
The franchise adopted its identity in July, becoming the Boston Hunters, named after a Boston-born physician and women’s rights activist Harriot Kezia Hunt.
Former Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Keith Foulke was the franchise’s first manager, but after the team dropped two of its first three games, he was replaced by former Red Sox second baseman Jemile Weeks. He is the younger brother of former Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Rickie Weeks, who is now in the team’s front office, and Georgetown assistant track and field and cross country coach Kaisha Weeks.
